Accessing diagnostics data during a BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring session

When BMC Application Diagnostics is integrated with the Real User Analyzer component of the BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring solution, you can navigate between BMC Real Event User Experience Monitoring and BMC Application Diagnostics to view captured transactions.

Configuring the Real User Analyzer is optional only if BMC Application Diagnostics is integrated with BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring.

To configure the Real User Analyzer to integrate with BMC Application Diagnostics

  1. During the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent installation, specify the following parameters to recognize the BMC Real End User Monitoring instance:
    • Set the Portal host name or IP address (the default value is localhost).
You can change it later by editing the portal.connection.ip parameter in the portal.connection.properties file.
    • Provide the values for APM console host and APM console https port parameters.
These parameters can be also edited in the portal.properties file by setting the apm.console.url parameter.
       For example: https://<APM_Console_Host>/console-adops/view/transaction-instances/view.jsf
  2. In the BMC Application Performance Management Console file system, update the adops_view.properties file by setting the truesight.host parameter to point to the Real User Analyzer instance. For example: truesight.host=10.161.55.12
  3. In the Real User Analyzer, open the Administration > Integration > Application Visibility Servers page and add new application visibility server so the system will be able to connect to your portal:
    • Set the URI of an application visibility server and click Save.
       For example: http://<Portal_IP>:<Portal_Port>/portal/rest/truesight
    • Based on the visibility server's authentication, select the authentication method - Basic or Form-based. If no authentication is necessary, select None.
    • Provide access credentials (if the authentication method is not selected, skip this step)

To access diagnostics data for specific transactions during a Real User Analyzer session

  1. During a BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring session, access the Real User Analyzer Session Browser and run a query.
The results display the sessions relevant to your query.
  2. Click a session to display a list of captured transactions. A green icon in the Application Visibility column indicates that data may have been collected by BMC Application Diagnostics for a page or object.
  3. Click the green icon.
    • If the captured instance was collected, the instance is displayed in the Captured Instances window.
    • If the captured instance was not collected, the following message is displayed:
The selected instance was not persisted in the system. The following instances were captured for the same entry point at similar time frames and may assist in the analysis session.
Similar captured instances, from the same request call, and in the same time range, are displayed in the Captured Instance window, enabling you to find other requests that ended with the same outcome as your diagnostics reference point.
    • If there are no available captured instances from the same request call type in the same time range, the Business Transactions window is displayed for the same time range.

Where to go from here

To link back to the Real User Analyzer Session Browser, select the Administration tab. Click System Configuration > Real User Analyzer.

The link back to the Real User Analyzer will be displayed in the Captured Instance collected, in the exit point node of the Application Flow tab of Captured Instance window.
