Selecting operations and alerts
After selecting the applications that will be recorded, you then select their operations. As the selected operations bear a performance impact, it is advised to go through a discovery period in which you determine which operations take part in the particular scenario. Recording too many operations may impact the application so as to cause it to run slower that it usually does. Recording too few operations, on the other hand, may cause the Black Box to miss the problem.
Operations can be set per the Black Box or per a specific application.
To select operations for the Recording Profile:
- Open the Recording Profile screen. The screen opens, displaying the Operations tab.
- Click the Refresh COM Information button to allow AppSight to provide the Recording Profile with an updated list of registered COM objects.
- Select the Black Box to apply the selected operations to the entire Recording Profile.
Or
Select an application from the tree. - Expand the Operations tree and select operations as required.
To impose selection on all of the operations:
The Recording Profile consists of two levels of profiles. The upper Black Box level controls the profile as a whole and the lower level refers to the individual processes. Changes made to the upper level affect the processes level as well.
For example, DB Operations is a property of all levels of the profile's hierarchy, including ATM.exe. Checking DB Operations for the upper level itself, affects ATM.exe as well.
To change Maximum String Length to allow for longer strings to appear on AppSight System Console:
- From the Operations tab, select the Settings tab.
In the Maximum string length, enter the maximum character length for displayed strings.
