Name resolution

By default DCOM needs bidirectional communication. When selecting the HTTP method, use both bidirectional and unidirectional communication between the AppSight Server and AppSight Black Box.

Note

Contact your System Administrator for details about a DCOM test from Microsoft which validates DCOM is enabled on the two computers. The test should be executed twice to validate it is enabled in both directions (once from the Client component and once from the Server component).

Network communication

Verify that network communication is allowed between the AppSight Server and the deployed AppSight Black Boxes. Since a Black Box is deployed on the customer's Windows Server, it is likely to assume that the computer can be resolved within the network domain. The opposite way (Black Box to AppSight Server) occasionally fails due to naming resolution issues.

Verify the following:

  • AppSight Console computer resolves the AppSight Server computer by name or by static IP address. Relevant for both bidirectional and unidirectional communication.
  • AppSight Server computer resolves the Black Box computer by name or by static IP address. Relevant for both bidirectional and unidirectional communication.
  • Black Box computer resolves the AppSight Server computer by name or by static IP address. Relevant only for bidirectional communication.
