Installing a BMC AppSight License Server

BMC AppSight License Server manages the BMC AppSight Console licensing.

The BMC AppSight License Server installation is available as a standalone installation package.

First install the BMC AppSight License Server and send the name and Host ID to BMC to get a license file. Use the LMTools application provided with the BMC AppSight License Server to view license details. Alternatively, you can self administer the license via the identify.opt file, see Manage Licensed Users with the FlexLM Options file (identify.opt).

The installation assumes you have received a license file (with a .lic extension) from BMC Support, and have copied this file to a directory.

To install the BMC AppSight License Server:

1. Run the BMC AppSight installation. An BMC AppSight splash screen is displayed, showing a list of installation options.
2. Select License Server. The BMC AppSight Installation Wizard starts and the Welcome window is displayed.
3. Click Next. The Customer Information window is displayed.
4. Type information in the User Name and Company Name fields as required and click Next. The Choose Destination Location of the License Server window is displayed.
5. Select the default License directory folder for the License Server, or use the Browse button to select an existing folder or add a new one. Then click Next.
    The Specify your BMC AppSight License window is displayed with the ID of the computer on which the BMC AppSight License Server is installed appearing in the read-only Host ID field.
6. To license the BMC AppSight License Server, use the Browse button and navigate to the location of the license file, and select it.
    The path to the license file appears in the License file field. Keep the license file in a separate directory and keep only one (the latest) license file.
7. Click Next. The InstallShield Wizard Complete window is displayed confirming installation of the BMC AppSight License Server.
8. Click Finish to complete the installation.
