License Overview

AppSight licenses are managed by a FlexLM License Server. The License Server provides a central point of license administration for all licensed users. The License Server restricts the number of licensed users which can be defined in the FlexLM Options file (identify.opt ) based on the number of Named-Users designated in the License file (*.lic ).

This License configuration allows you to directly manage the individual Usernames of the Named-Users without the need to contact BMC AppSight Support to request an updated License file (*.lic ). This enables you to manage all license changes except License Server replacement and additional License purchases.

The AppSight Server and AppSight BlackBoxes are not directly licensed, as recorded data can only be viewed through a licensed AppSight Console.

Note

The BMC AppSight License file must be able to support version 7.7 in order to function correctly. Open the license file (it has a .lic extension) with a text editor, such as Notepad, and validate it is version 7.7 or higher. If it is not then contact BMC Support.
