Installing the BMC AppSight for Windows Server

This section describes how to install a separate version of the BMC AppSight for Windows Server. This is typically relevant when you want to record applications on an additional server. Note that you can only install one instance of the AppSight Server per machine.

Note

If you are installing on Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 64-bit, enable the IIS 6.0 option allowing 32-bit Web applications to run on 64-bit Windows. This ensures the BMC AppSight Windows Server will connect with the BMC AppSight Repository Server.

To install the AppSight for Windows Server:

  1. Navigate to the directory where the install is located and double-click AppSight Windows Server.exe. The Installation Welcome screen is displayed.
  2. Click Next. The License Agreement screen is displayed.
  3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement. The Customer Information screen is displayed.
  4. Enter your User Name and Company Name.
  5. Click Next. The Choose Destination Location screen is displayed.
  6. Click Next to install the AppSight Server to the default directory, or click Browse to install to a different directory. The directory will be created if it does not already exist.
  7. Click Next. The Select folder for BMC AppSight for Windows Server files screen is displayed.
  8. Click Next to leave the default folder for AppSight Server related files, or click Browse to create a different directory.
  9. The Select Website screen is displayed if you have more than one IIS component (such as a website) already installed. The Select Website screen is not displayed if there is no IIS installed.
As IIS features of the product are installed in IIS, you will need to select the website under which the IIS features of the AppSight Server will be installed. In the displayed list, select the relevant website and click Next

    Note

When connected to an AppSight Server through the default connection of DCOM: if the setup encounters a version of IIS that is not supported a message is displayed informing you the IIS version is not supported and BMC AppSight Server Web Services will not be installed.

  10. The setup process is then started. After installing all the AppSight Server files, the Wizard Complete screen is displayed.
  11. Click Finish to complete the installation.
In your computer's Services you can now find the BMC AppSight Windows Server service. Leave the Startup Type of Manual, it will only be started when necessary. For example, when a Black Box connects to the AppSight Server or when the AppSight Server gets added to the AppSight System Console.

    Note

The service will automatically stop if you try to manually start it.
