Step 4 - Installing and deploying Black Boxes

To deploy a Black Box from your BMC AppSight System Console:

1. Select Black Box from the Install menu in the AppSight System Console. The Black Box Installation dialog box is displayed.
2. Make sure that the Install option is selected.
3. Select Computer Name and enter the name of the computer on which you want to install a Black Box.
    Or
    Select Browse Network and select the Network domain from the Domain dropdown list. The list box displays a list of computers in the selected domain.
    In the list box, select the computer(s) on which you wish to install a Black Box.
4. Click Next. The dialog box where you configure which directory the Black Box files should be installed and when the Black Box should be run is displayed.

5. Enter the path and directory where the files are to be installed on the target computer(s).
    If you do not have permission to install a Black Box on the computer (or computers), select the Connect using option, and type in the User name and Password for a User that does have permission.

   To verify if you have the relevant administrative privileges, from the Windows Start menu click Run, and then enter \\<server>\C$. You can also configure an AppSight Server if you have the relevant administrative permissions

   If you install multiple Black Boxes, make sure that you select or type a directory path that is valid on all the computers where you install the Black Boxes.

   Click Next.

6. Select the Run on Startup option to run the Black Box after installation.
7. Select DCOM and/or HTTP as your communication method. Note that when selecting HTTP you can also select HTTP Client (which enables you to connect to another AppSight Server with the Black Box as an HTTP client) OR HTTP Server (which is only enabled if you are installing on Windows 2003 or 2008).
8. Define the default communication type by selecting the relevant option from the dropdown list. The options available depend on the methods selected in the previous step. To connect the Black Box to an AppSight Server, enter the Server name or IP address.
9. Click Next. The Summary screen is displayed.
10. Click Next and the installation begins.
     A progress bar is displayed while the Black Box is installed on the selected computer(s).
11. When the operation is complete, click Finish.
