Saving a log as a text file
Saving a recording session as a text file enables you to distribute the information for export of the log to other analysis tools.
To view data from the text file, open it in any Text editor or Spreadsheet program.
When you save a log as a text file, you can only save information you view in the Execution Log pane (you must apply the appropriate filters).
Note that an F indicates failed entries, for example, F open file, and an S represents successful entries.
To save recorded information in the BMC AppSight System console as a text file:
- To filter out information not required for analysis, click on the Filter tab in the BMC AppSight System console's bottom left Filter and Details pane.
- In the Filters tab pane, clear check boxes for recorded operation types that should not appear in the log.
You can also use other filters from the Filter dialog box that can be accessed by clicking the respective toolbar button, such as the Open Filter dialog box toolbar button. - Select Save Log as Text from the File menu. The Save log as dialog box is displayed (without Password or Confirmation fields).
- Navigate to the required location and specify a name for the file. The default name is the date/time syntax of when the recording started.
- Click Save. The session information is saved in text format.
