Monitoring solution architecture and overview

Regardless of whether it's on the cloud or on-premises, having visibility into the internal operations of the IT services and infrastructure is crucial for an efficient IT system. IT monitoring includes monitoring the processes and tools to ensure the efficient functioning of your IT infrastructure and services.

As organizations depend more on intricate IT systems, there is a growing need for intelligent, automated, and efficient solutions for monitoring and managing IT operations.  BMC Helix AIOps uses AI/ML to enhance IT operations and monitor the health of your services.

The monitoring solution built to monitor your on-premises BMC Helix IT Operations Management leverages the capabilities of BMC Helix AIOps, BMC Discovery, BMC Helix Dashboards, and BMC Helix Log Analytics.

Outpost is optional if the Discovery on Observability stack is able to reach out the production cluster.

In this diagram, Outpost is placed on the observability stack. You can choose between production stack and observability stack to place the Outpost based on your requirement.

The monitoring solution includes the following components for gathering metrics and logs from both Kubernetes and OpenShift clusters:

  • BMC Helix Monitor Agent   Is a lightweight containerized collector that contains the necessary Knowledge modules (KMs). KMs are pre-configured sets of rules and logic for monitoring specific components. These modules collect metrics and send them to BMC Helix IT Operations Management on the observability stack. Events are generated if the set thresholds for the metrics are breached.
  • Prometheus Exporter for Apache Zookeeper  Serves as a data collector if your on premises  is deployed in an OpenShift cluster. It collects Zookeeper metrics from the OpenShift cluster and sends them to the BMC Helix Monitor Agent, which then forwards them to  on the nonproduction stack.
  • Log Analytics connector for Kubernetes  The connector collects filtered logs from the on-premise BMC Helix IT Operations Management and sends them to BMC Helix Log Analytics on the observability stack.

You must install and configure these components on the production stack.

The monitoring solution comprises the following products to view metrics, events, and logs:

  • BMC Helix Operations Management — Consists of consoles to view events and take appropriate actions.
  • BMC Helix Dashboards — Comprises specific dashboards for each monitored resource, offering a consolidated view of all infrastructure metrics.
  • BMC Helix AIOps  — Provides a service model that allows visualization of services and the relationships between various logical components or CIs, aiding in monitoring overall system health.
  • BMC Helix Log Analytics  —  Helps you to view logs.

You must install these components on the observability stack.
