The Tideway Knowledge Update comprises four main components:

  • Core - Patterns that model various software products
  • Database detail - Patterns that extend some of the core database patterns to obtain additional detailed information about certain databases
  • Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate Foundation with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of certain host Operating Systems as well as versions of certain software products
  • Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populate Foundation with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.

Installation and Upgrade

Installation and upgrade instructions are provided here.

Note

Due to an issue with pattern module names (described below in the bug #11858 entry), if you are upgrading from TKU-2009-Apr-1 to TKU-2009-May-1 without removing the TKU April, you will need to manually disable the EMC_Powerpath pattern module in TKU-SUPPORTDETAILS-2009-04-1

A matrix covering ALL commands executed and ALL files retrieved by the patterns is available to our customers from the Tideway Downloads site

Oracle

Improved identification and versioning of Oracle (Apache) HTTP Server. Additional active command versioning and path regex versioning

Software Change Manager

Software Change Manager Client pattern enhanced - added package and file versioning. An additional trigger process found

N

Informatica

PowerCenter

Informatica PowerCenter Server and PowerCenter Repository Server patterns have had path versioning improved based on customer feedback. Additionally, model for each pattern updated. In case of PowerCenter Server, the SI created has instances grouped either on trigger process command-line arguments, or on the process path (if arguments not retrieved). In case of PowerCenter Repository Server, the SI created has instances grouped on trigger process path. The SI key has therefore changed in both patterns.

Y

Oracle

Database - Installed Options

The pattern now attempts to retrieve installed options by parsing configuration files if it cannot obtain the list of installed options via direct database query

The length of the SI keys generated by certain patterns can be quite long as it may be using the trigger process command-line or args. This can cause issues when exporting the data from Foundation. Solution: The component of the SI key that is likely to be long is now not used directly but instead an MD5 hash of the string is used instead.

The following modules have had patterns modified:

  • ApacheFoundation.Tomcat
  • BEA.WebLogicApplicationServer
  • BEA.WebLogic.Integration
  • BEA.WebLogic.RealTime

If a VMware VM moves from one VM host to another it can appear as if it is being hosted by more than one host until one of the relationships ages. VMware consolidation patterns updated to remove old relationship on the next scan.

11806

The Oracle EM OracleManagementServerDetail pattern uses "-A" in its grep command which is only available in GNU Grep on the Linux platform. Pattern updated so this is no longer the case. The pattern now parses the configuration file using a combination of 'cat' and 'sed' commands

11825

When scanning Citrix Xen Enterprise hosts, attempting to download /sys/hypervisor/uuid file can lead to hung processes on the host. This is due to a bug in RHEL 5. The pattern now tests for presence of xenstored process and only attempt to download the file if the process is found - it indicates an actively hosting Xen Enterprise host.

When scanning Xen Source Xen Server hosts, attempting to download /sys/hypervisor/uuid file can lead to hung processes on the host. This is due to a bug in RHEL 5. The pattern now tests for presence of xenstored process and only attempt to download the file if the process is found - it indicates an actively hosting Xen Server host.

SI Type was incomplete for Oracle UCM Document Management Content Tracker Reports and Oracle UCM Document Management Content Tracker in Oracle UCM Document Management module. Now fixed.

In Sun Java System WebProxyServer pattern, active command to obtain version could be executed even if base path to the command not obtained from the args.

Approximately 20 lines in HRD CSV file were duplicates which would lead to error messages on loading. This has now been resolved and duplicates removed

During an enhancement to Product Lifecycle pattern for EMC PowerPath, the name of the module was also inadvertently changed. This has lead to an issue where an upgrade from TKU Mar 2009 to TKU April 2009 would leave 1 pattern module in 'SUPPORTDETAILS' pack active.
The pattern module name has now been restored to original.

NOTE If upgrading from TKU April 2009 to TKU May 2009 without removing the old patterns, you will need to manually disable the EMC Powerpath module in TKU April 2009

Oracle RDBMS pattern could exit with an ECA Engine error when parsing the listener.ora file as it assumed that the file had been successfully downloaded. The pattern now ensures the file is downloaded before attempting to parse it

20777

11883

Oracle Connection Manager Unix pattern path versioning failing due to an incorrect regular expression. Pattern updated - versioning regular expression improved

When the Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server sets the type, where the type is set to Sun Java Application Server (in case of older versions of this product), the type name has the word 'Server' duplicated. Pattern updated - duplicate wording removed

Product Lifecycle Patterns

You can use Tideway Foundation and OS / Software product lifecycle data to:

  • Identify operating systems and software that are exposed to security / stability risks as they are no longer supported by patch updates
  • Identify operating systems and software that you may may be paying a premium maintenance subscription for
  • Identify operating systems and software that are no longer shipping so may increase costs and risks associated with variance
