Contents of the Knowledge Update

As of TKU Feb 2009 and onwards, the Knowledge Update comprises four main components:

  • Core - Patterns that model various software products
  • Database detail - Patterns that extend some of the core database patterns to obtain additional detailed information about certain databases
  • Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate Foundation with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of certain host Operating Systems as well as versions of certain software products
  • Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populate Foundation with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.

SI Key Change

Pattern Module

HP

Data Protector

An additional attribute, agent_name, was added to the Agent pattern. Cell Server Database Service, Cell Server Service, Media Management Server, Agent patterns have had active versioning added. Additionally, a second-order SI pattern added which describes the HP Data Protector Cell Manager. The Cell Manager pattern acts as a container for Cell Server Database Service, Cell Server Service and Media Manager Server patterns, and also retrieves licensing information for the product.

N

IBM

Rational ClearQuest

ClearQuest Web Platform pattern trigger updated to use TPL 1.1 functionality - the conditions for triggering are now 'created' or 'confirmed'

N

Oracle

Application Server

The way the patterns create the model for Oracle Application Server was re-worked to make it more accurate. Oracle Application Server is a collection of Oracle OC4J (J2EE Container) instances, and this is now reflected by the patterns that model the product. The original Application Server pattern has been broken out into two patterns, with a first-order SI pattern for Oracle Application Server OC4J instance being used as a building block for second-order Oracle Application Server pattern. In addition to this, we added code to ensure all optional additional attributes were displayed in the Software Instance when they were populated

Y

Oracle

Enterprise Manager

Server pattern was updated in the following ways:

  • Additional known versions added
  • Trigger modified
  • Path versioning added
  • Type reworded
  • Key modified
  • Additional attributes, ora_home, server_name and management_packs added
  • Communication links to OEM Management Agent, Oracle Application Server and Oracle Database Server added
  • A list of management packs installed is obtained from comps.xml using findstr and grep

In addition, the Agent pattern was updated in the following ways:

  • Additional known versions added
  • Path versioning improved
  • Type reworded
  • Additional attribute, ora_home, added
  • Software Instance changed from key_group to key

Y

Oracle

RDBMS

Database Server pattern enhanced to obtain listening port information and global database service name

Bugs Fixed

The following bugs have been fixed in Tideway Knowledge Update 2009-Mar-1

N/A

11442

The poweron_startup attribute in the VMware.tpl pattern currently has three statuses: True (definitely does start up), False (definitely does not start up) or None (no evidence either way). The attribute was being added only if the status was set to True. Pattern updated so that the attribute is always added.

N/A

11447

BEA WebLogic Application Server pattern (Windows) did not have user configurable settings for the listening port. This has now been rectified.

N/A

11482

HP ServiceGuard pattern executes 'cmviewcl' command to get the information about the cluster being managed. Unfortunately this command requires elevated privileges which the pattern assumed were always granted. The pattern now checks whether execution with elevated privileges is allowed, and this setting is now user configurable.

N/A

11477

JBoss and JBoss Portal Patterns will not match base_dir if path to run.jar is not first entry in the classpath. Issue rectified, classpaths with multiple entries now handled

N/A

11498

JBoss and JBoss Portal Patterns will not parse classpath entries if they have spaces in them (as can happen on the Windows platform). Issue rectified, classpaths with spaces now handled

N/A

11543

In Microsoft Dynamics BAI pattern an incorrect variable was used in code to link SIs. This has now been rectified.

N/A

11610

The .NET pattern will pick up .NET Compact Framework which is a mobile version of .NET framework. The pattern has been modified to ignore the installations of Compact Framework. Additionally, more versions have been added to the version mapping table.

N/A

11622

Oracle RDBMS Express Edition UNIX pattern trigger has the following trigger: unix_cmd 'xe_smon_.+$' This means that when internally converted into a regular expression, an extra (redundant) '$' is left at the end of the trigger. This has now been rectified and the trigger updated - no longer contains the additional '$'

19108

11631

Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server pattern may exit with an ECA Engine error in certain cases where it cannot determine the type of application server. This has now been rectified. Additional code added to set a default server type if it cannot be determined by the pattern.

Product Lifecycle Patterns

You can use Tideway Foundation and OS / Software product lifecycle data to:

  • Identify operating systems and software that are exposed to security / stability risks as they are no longer supported by patch updates
  • Identify operating systems and software that you may may be paying a premium maintenance subscription for
  • Identify operating systems and software that are no longer shipping so may increase costs and risks associated with variance

Operating System Product Lifecycle Patterns

TKU 2009-Feb-1 introduces product life cycle patterns providing End Of Life, End Of Support and End Of Extended Support dates for:

  • 11 publishers
  • 17 operating systems
  • 177 operating system versions

Go to the OS-Product-Life-Cycle-Patterns-TKU-2009-Mar-1 page for a full list of products included in this release.

Software Product Lifecycle Patterns

This TKU includes product life cycle patterns providing End Of Life, End Of Support and End Of Extended Support dates for an additional 245 software product versions.

  • 33 publishers
  • 163 software products
  • 1,004 software product versions

Go to the Software-Product-Life-Cycle-Patterns-TKU-2009-Mar-1 page for a full list of products included in this release.

Hardware Reference Data

You can use Tideway Foundation hardware reference data to:

  • Identify servers that can be expanded in situations where space is a constraining factor in the data center
  • Identify server refresh / rationalization candidates in situations where cooling is a constraining factor in the data center
  • Identify server refresh / rationalization candidates in situations where power is a constraining factor in the data center

This TKU includes hardware reference data providing Rack Size, Power Consumption, Heat Output and Maximum Memory capacity for an additional 73 server model configurations.

  • 7 manufacturers
  • 330 server models
  • 970 server model configurations

Go to the Hardware-Reference-Data-TKU-2009-Mar-1 page for a full list of products included in this release.
