Viewing objects


You can view detailed information, such as the attributes and relationships for any specific object in BMC Discovery. When you view these details, relationships of an object with other objects are indicated by a highlighted hyperlink. A View Object page is displayed when you click a linked object from a List page or another View Object page.

Only those attributes and relationships of the object appear that have been set. Unknown attributes are not displayed. You can drill-down to the linked objects by clicking the hyperlinks on the View Object page. The following table explains the actions that you can perform for any specific object in BMC Discovery from the View Object page.

Show provenance

Shows the provenance of an object.

Click the Show Provenance button if provenance is not already being displayed.

View history

Displays the history of the object.

From the Actions menu, select View History.

Compare objects

Compares a specific object with other like objects.

From the Actions menu, select Compare To...

Destroy objects

Destroys or deletes a specific object.

From the Actions menu, select Destroy.

View related objects

Displays details of a related object.

Click the hyperlinked <object name>.

View object in the model

Displays a software and infrastructure view, which shows the object in the context of the model, with all related objects.

Click the Visualize / Model button if the visualization is not already being displayed.

To view a summary of infrastructure items

  1. From the main menu, select Explore > Data.
    The Infrastructure page opens. This page lists the total number of each kind of infrastructure item in the system, as well as any infrastructure objects assigned to you. It also displays a list of infrastructure-related reports. For more information, see Reporting-on-the-infrastructure.
  2. To view a list of infrastructure items, click any of the listed object kinds.
     A list of the appropriate objects of the selected type is displayed.

To view details of an infrastructure item

  1. Display an infrastructure list page; for example:
    • A list of your infrastructure objects.
    • The results of any infrastructure search.
    • Any infrastructure report.
  2. Click any highlighted object in the list to display the View Object page, which lists the attributes of the object and its relationships with other objects.

From this page, you can view any other related object, or you can delete the object.

Some attributes or relationships appear on the View Object page only if a value is set. If data has not been discovered, these fields are not listed.
