Enhanced pattern compilation and execution

BMC Discovery 24.2 introduces improvements to the way that reasoning works. Part of the reasoning changes make improvements to TPL compilation and execution, resulting in:

  • Reduced compile times
  • Improved compile-time errors and warnings
  • Runtime ECA Errors now include a traceback of the TPL calls
  • The changes fix or improve some of the existing behaviors in TPL. See What-s-new-in-TPL for more information.

The changes also enable the following pattern management enhancements:

  • Deactivated patterns stay deactivated when a new TKU is applied.
  • Knowledge management page lists and provides a direct link to newly imported pattern modules after upload.

Outpost registration by using the REST API

You can now securely register BMC Discovery Outposts by using the Outpost and BMC Discovery REST APIs. See Authenticating-with-the-Outpost-REST-API for more information.

  • Securely register Outposts using the REST APIs
  • Exchange tokens by calling APIs on both Outpost and BMC Discovery

Filter on relationship attributes in the visual query builder

You can now filter on relationships by using their attributes in the visual query builder.

Produce compact JSON output from the REST API

The REST API sends its output in a compact JSON format, for efficient generation of the response, and use of bandwidth. Some endpoints such as data/search and topology/nodes can produce very large responses.

You can use the query parameter json_format=pretty (on all endpoints) that gives pretty-printed output, with 2 spaces for each indent level.

Miscellaneous improvements

The following miscellaneous improvements are available:

  • Discover and display additional attributes for TLS Certificate Discovery.
  • The BMC Discovery Outpost only uses 'Modern' ciphers as defined by Mozilla. See this article on the Mozilla website.
