Navigating the administration interface

The Discovery section provides links to the configuration and management pages for Discovery. The available links are:

• Platforms—Configure the commands used for each target OS; described in Managing-the-discovery-platform-scripts.
• SNMP Devices—View the network devices which can be discovered by BMC Discovery; described in Viewing-an-SNMP-managed-device.
• Storage Devices—View the WBEM queries used to perform direct discovery of storage devices. See Storage-device-direct-discovery.
• Cloud & API Providers—View the cloud providers supported by BMC Discovery; described in Discovering-cloud-services. Also, see the supported API providers in Discovering-services-with-API-providers.
• Sensitive Data Filters—Mask any sensitive data which might otherwise be seen in the command output; described in Masking-sensitive-data.
• Discovery Configuration—Configure the Discovery process; described in Configuring-discovery.
• Discovery Consolidation—Configure consolidation of discovery data between appliances; described in Consolidation.
• Vault Management—Manage the Credential Vault; described in Managing-the-credential-vault.
• Device Capture—Capture an SNMP device using BMC Discovery to dump the MIB of an SNMP agent, which is then used to request that support be included in BMC Discovery for that SNMP device; described in Capturing-SNMP-devices.
• Event Sources—Automatically polls vCenter for vMotion events, and updates the model when VMs move. Enable event collection in Event Sources.
• Kerberos—Configure Kerberos authentication for target discovery using SSH authentication. You can also use the tw_kerberos command-line utility.
• External Consumers—Configure BMC Discovery to send Directly Discovered Data (DDD) to an external consumer such as Apache Kafka, so that you can perform additional bespoke processing. 

The Security section provides links for the pages used to configure the security of the appliance and users. The available links are:

• Users—Add, remove and modify users; described in Managing-system-users.
• User Groups—Add, remove and modify groups; described in Managing-groups.
• Security Policy—Configure the appliance security options; described in Managing-security-policies.
• HTTPS—Configure the HTTPS settings for the appliance; described in Configuring-HTTPS-settings.
• Appliance Certificates—View and manage the certificates that the appliance uses for authentication.
• LDAP—View information about integrating BMC Discovery with LDAP; described in Managing-LDAP.
• Single Sign-On—Integrate BMC Discovery with BMC Helix Single Sign-On (Helix SSO) to simplify user authentication. BMC Discovery supports other methods of web authentication using plugins to authenticate user logins, though BMC Helix SSO is the preferred method. 
• Active Sessions—View all users who are currently logged in; described in Viewing-active-sessions.
• Audit—Configure the appliance audit feature; described in Auditing-the-system.

The Appliance section provides links for the configuration pages for the appliance. The available links are:

• Configuration—Configure and view appliance identification, viewing the appliance specification and network information, mail settings, and JVM settings.
• Control—Restart services, reboot, shut down the appliance, or place it into maintenance mode. If accessed from a cluster member perform the operations on a cluster; described in Maintaining-the-system.
• Logs—Manage logs and log levels; described in Contents-of-the-logs.
• Backup & Restore—Operate the appliance backup feature that enables you to back up the appliance; described in Backing-up-and-restoring-the-appliance.
• Baseline Status—Check and configure the appliance baseline; described in Baseline-configuration.
• Performance—View charts showing the appliance performance over the last 30 days; described in Monitoring-discovery-performance.
• Appliance Support—Create an archive of diagnostic information for customer support; described in Collecting-additional-data-for-support-cases.
• Miscellaneous—Configure audit and application options settings.
• Database Drivers—Configure database drivers that are available for Database Discovery; described in Managing-database-drivers. 
• Disk Configuration—Enables you to move BMC Discovery data onto and create swap space on new disks on your appliance.
• Time Sync—Configure time synchronization with an NTP server on your network or the internet.
• Cluster Management—Create and configure clusters and perform cluster management tasks.
• Upgrade—Upgrade a standalone appliance or cluster.
• Licensing—The licensing page enables you to enable cloud discovery, determine license usage, and report on licensing.

The Model section provides links to the pages used to configure and maintain the model, and import and export data. The available links are:

• View Taxonomy—View the system taxonomy; described in Viewing-the-system-taxonomy.
• Model Maintenance—Configure model maintenance settings; described in Configuring-model-maintenance-settings.
• Custom Categories—Set up data categories; described in Setting Up Standard Data Categories.
• CMDB Sync—Configure scheduled export synchronizations with BMC Atrium CMDB; described in Preparing-BMC-Helix-CMDB-for-synchronization.
• CSV Import—Import generic data in CSV format; described in CSV Import.
• Search Management—View any search in progress, and depending on your privileges, cancel searches; described in Using-the-Search-service.
• Channels—Manage existing channels and create new channels; described in Customizing-dashboards.
• Custom Reports Management—Manage your custom reports; described in Uploading-custom-reports-and-links. Creation of custom reports is described in creating custom reports.
