Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2025-Jan-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, 24.3, and 25.2 versions of BMC Discovery.

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering:

BMC HELIX PLATFORM:

Enhanced the BMC Helix Operations Management (BHOM) patterns to support the following Knowledge Modules (KM) and MonitoredObject types (for more details, see the documentation here):
- BMC PATROL for Apache Kafka KM support (DRDC1-26937).
- BMC PATROL for AWS enhancement: AWS_REDIS (DRDC1-27082).
- BMC for Microsoft Azure KM enhancements: added support for PAF_POSTGRESQL_FLEXIBLE (DRDC1-27677), PAF_STORAGE_QUEUE and PAF_STORAGE_TABLE (DRDC1-28231), PAF_SUBSCRIPTION and PAF_AZURE_ACCOUNT (DRDC1-28184).
Improved the Import.Dynatrace.DynatraceImport pattern to prevent the following ECA error: "key expression requires a node, not none." For more details, see (DRDC1-28121).
Removed portal.azure.com's entity_id from external_ids for remote monitoring scenarios in Azure KM to prevent duplicate associations with monitored objects. For more details, see (DRDC1-28119).

CLOUD:

AZURE: Added support for automatic Kubernetes scanning in Azure Kubernetes Service (Azure AKS) clusters by using private or alternative URLs, with the alternative URL included as a query parameter in the main cluster URL. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-27364).
IBM: Added support for discovering IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) subnets. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-27088).
OCI: Added a new region — Italy North (eu-turin-1). For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-28225).
MONGODB ATLAS: Added a new region — Madrid, Spain (spaincentral). For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-28212).

PATTERNS:

Updated the VMware Virtual Machine pattern to populate the VMware Virtual Machine notes field. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-26010).

STORAGE:

Added total_capacity and consumed_total_capacity attributes to StorageSystemGroup in NetApp REST and NetApp ONTAPI patterns. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-27684).
Enhanced NetApp volume discovery to include the following additional attributes: creation date, snapshot count, snapshot policy name, and encryption type. These attributes are now modeled for File Systems (NetApp Volumes) nodes by using the NetApp REST API. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-27931).

BMC Discovery Extended Data Pack 2026-Jan-1
- Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
- National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
- Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.

BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
- Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
- Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.

BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
