Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2025-Apr-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2025-Apr-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, and 24.3 versions of BMC Discovery.

Warning

HEADS-UP: In this release, we are changing the default CTI values for BMC_Cluster as follows:

  • Category="Cluster"
  • Type="Cluster"
  • Item=<cluster.type>​​​​​​

instead of "Unknown" as previously defined. Note that you can still go back to the previous values by updating the pattern configuration CMDB.SyncConfig module accordingly. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-25982).

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering: 

CMDB sync 

  • Cloud HardwareContainer is now mapped to CloudService. For more details, see (DRDC1-25502).

  • NetworkDevice collection of other Devices is now mapped to Dependency, NetworkDevice management of AdminCollections is now mapped to Dependency. For more details, see (DRDC1-25288).​​​​​

Cloud

  • ​​​​Added new cloud regions (DRDC1-26047):

    • ALIBABA: Mexico (na-south-1). For more details, see the documentation here.

    • AZURE: Hyderabad, Indonesia (indonesiacentral). For more details, see the documentation here.

    • GCP: Stockholm, Sweden (europe-north2). For more details, see the documentation here.

  • CLOUD/MONGO DB ATLAS: Added the TLS Certificate Check option for the provider. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-25174).

  • CLOUD/AWS: Replaced the CloudResource node type with StorageVolume for Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). Additionally, the block_size and consumable_blocks attributes are no longer expected. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-25145).

Storage 

  • HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes is now deprecated. Instead, a new attribute, Total Logical Consumed Capacity, is added for the Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC SC Series patterns. It is identical to the "Allocated Capacity" attribute. Also, added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute to the IBM FlashSystem pattern.

  • New: Added support for the discovery of Scality Ring storage systems. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-19700).

Release compatibility

TKU 2025-Apr-1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, and 24.3.

  • BMC Discovery Extended Data Pack 2025-Apr-1
    • Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
    • National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
    • Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.
  • BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
    • Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
    • Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.
  • BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
