Amazon Supported Cloud Regions
How Cloud Regions are named in BMC Helix Discovery
CloudRegion node name is created from
'AWS <label> : <account_name>'
where
<label> is an AWS Region Name from the list of supported cloud regions; for example, af-south-1 for Africa (Cape Town) OR Outposts in AWS Region Name for the BMC Outpost.
<account_name> is an AWS Account Name that has a more advanced logic. To attempt to obtain a human-readable name, start with method A, and if it fails, proceed to the following ones:
- Method A.
The main source is the AWS account alias taken from the 'AWS.IAM.ListAccountAliases' request.
- Method B.
A search is performed for a previously created CloudManagementGroup node for this account with the required AWS account ID. This group must be previously modeled or discovered; see AWS Organization Discovery.
- Method C.
Perform an additional request to AWS - 'AWS.Organizations.DescribeAccount'. This request requires additional permission to the 'organization' service; for example, Example: AWS US East (N. Virginia) : development_1. See API DescribeAccount in the official AWS documentation.
If none of the methods gives a human-readable name, the AWS account ID is used; for example, AWS US East (N. Virginia) : 555558888999
