Ceph Storage Systems
Ceph storage systems can be discovered using either Ceph Manager or the Ceph API service. As part of routine discovery, when a Host running the ceph-mgr process is detected, the pattern creates a Software Instance Ceph Manager node. Once discovered, the storage entities are modeled in BMC Discovery.
Supported Operating Systems
- UNIX/Linux
Prerequisites
- BMC Discovery v12.0 and higher
- Credentials:
- SSH credentials (for the host where Ceph Manager is installed) and REST API credentials when using Ceph Manager
- REST API credentials when using the Ceph API service
- Port 8443 added to the list of SSH and HTTPS ports under “Administration → Discovery Configuration
Procedure
When using Ceph Manager
- Go to “Manage → Credentials”
- Add new credentials of type “Ceph API”
- Add SSH credentials of type "SSH" of the host where Ceph Manager is installed
- Add port 8443
- Click Apply.
When using the Ceph API service
- Go to “Manage → Credentials”
- Add new credentials of type “Ceph API”
- Add port 8443
- Click Apply.
Test credentials
To prevent discovery issues due to invalid credentials, it is recommended to test your credentials before running a scan:
- Go to “Manage → Credentials”
- Click the "Action → Test" menu next to the credentials entry
- In the Test URL field, type https://<IP> or <HOSTNAME>:<PORT>/api/monitor. Port is 8443 by default
- Click Test.
If your test is successful, scan either:
- the IP address of the host where Ceph Manager is installed
- or the IP address of the Ceph Node.
