NetApp Storage Active IQ Unified Manager

NetApp Active IQ Storage Systems are discovered using the NetApp Active IQ Unified Manager REST API (AIQUM). During routine discovery, when a host is discovered, BMC Discovery creates the software instance and triggers the NetApp Storage Active IQ Unified Manager pattern. The pattern continues the discovery using additional REST API requests to identify associated storage components. Once discovered, the storage entities are modeled in BMC Discovery.

Warning

Important

Starting with TKU December 2023, to discover the NetApp UM Active IQ storage system, you only need to use REST credentials. You do not need to provide SSH or Windows credentials.

Supported Platforms

Any model supported by NetApp Active IQ Unified Manager.

Prerequisites

  • A NetApp UM Active IQ user account with read-only privileges.
  • Port 443 added to the list of HTTPS ports under “Administration → Discovery Configuration

Procedure

Initial Setup

  1. Go to “Manage → Credentials”,
  2. Add new credentials of type "REST API with basic authentication"
  3. Add port 443
  4. Click Apply.

Test Credentials

To prevent discovery issues due to invalid credentials, it is recommended to test your credentials before running a scan:

  1. Go to “Manage → Credentials
  2. Click the "Action → Test" menu next to the credentials entry
  3. In the Test URL field, type https://<IP> or <HOSTNAME>:<PORT>/api/management-server/system. Port is 443 by default
  4. Click Test.

If your test is successful, scan the IP address of the NetApp UM Active IQ.

Discovered Storage Information

Vendor Specific Information

No known vendor specific information.

Limitations

  1. A defect has been identified in NetApp Active IQ Unified manager v9.8 where the aggregate information is partially collected.
  2. When using the NetApp REST storage pattern and the NetApp Active IQ pattern, the same File System nodes might be discovered twice as the keys are different. It is highly recommended to either use the NetApp REST pattern or the NetApp Active IQ pattern to avoid duplication of File System nodes.
  3. Some attribute values are not set in NetApp Active IQ pattern when compared to NetApp REST based pattern.  See the list of missing attributes below:
