IBM Spectrum Control Storage Discovered Information


This page details the storage information collected for each of the supported IBM Spectrum Control Storage Systems discovered in your IT infrastructure.

Storage Systems Information

To access the collected information for IBM Storage systems:

  1. From the Home page, locate the Quick View section and click the Storage System icon to display the list of the discovered storage systems.
  2. In the Storage System list, double-click the IBM Spectrum Control storage system you wish to access.

The table below lists the System Storage Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Name

The name of the storage system.

Type

The type name of the storage system.

Client Access Types

The ways in which a client host can access the storage that this system is providing. This may be SAN, NAS, or SAN and NAS.

Vendor

The storage system vendor.

DNS Domain

The Domain Name System (DNS) of the storage system.

Model

The name of the storage system model.

Serial Number

The serial number of the storage system.

Status

The operational status of the storage system. To simplify the reading, the status values are categorized as OK, Degraded, Failed, or Offline.

Status Detail

The operational storage system status as exposed by the device's vendor.

Software Version

The version number of the software.

Contained Hardware

The name of the hardware container (node) for the storage system.

Total Capacity

The total capacity of the storage system.

Total Consumed Capacity

The total space consumed in the storage system.

Percentage Consumed

The percentage of space actually consumed in the storage system.

Total Available Capacity

The total capacity available for storage in the storage system.

Total Subscribed Capacity

The total subscribed capacity in the storage system in bytes.

Percentage Subscribed

The percentage of space subscribed in the storage system.

Total Disk Space

The total available space in the storage system in bytes.

Total Oversubscribed Capacity

The total space oversubscribed in the storage system in bytes.

Available Capacity

The total capacity available for storage in the storage system.

Managed By

The software managing the storage system and the host on which it is running.

Storage Processors

A summary table showing the storage processors in the storage system. For each processor the following information is displayed:

  • Processor Identifier
  • Vendor
  • Model
  • Firmware
  • Number of FC Ports

To see the storage processor page, click the corresponding table row.

Contained Storage Pools

Displays the number of related storage pools. This is also a link to the Storage Pool List page. To see the storage pool page, click the corresponding table row.

Storage Volumes

Displays the number of related storage volumes. This is also a link to the Storage Volume List page. To see the storage volume page, click the corresponding table row.

Hardware Container Information

A Hardware Container in BMC Discovery is a node that regroups all the available information about the discovered hardware components for a storage system. 

To access the collected information for hardware containers click the Hardware Container link available from the Storage System page.

The table below lists the Hardware Containers Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Name

The name of the hardware container.

Serial Number

The hardware container serial number.

Type

The type of the hardware container:

  • Main System Chassis are containers directly attached to the storage system that regroup Expansion Chassis containers and/or provide access to the discovered hardware components metrics.
  • Expansion Chassis containers are part of a Main System Chassis container and provide access to the discovered hardware components metrics.

Model

The model name of the hardware container.

Hardware Vendor

The name of the hardware container manufacturer.

Storage System

Link to the storage system(s) related to the hardware container.

Disk Drives

The list of the disk drives that are grouped in the hardware container.

Pattern

Link to the related pattern information.

Disk Drives Information

This section provides information about the disk drives for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for disk drives:

  1. Click the Infrastructure tab, and then the Storage Systems in the Infrastructure Summary section.
  2. Select a storage system from the list.
  3. Click the Contained Hardware link
  4. Click the Disk Drives related link in the Disk Drives section to display a list of the disk drives associated to the storage system.
  5. Click a Disk Drive in the list.

The table below lists the Disk Drives Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Disk Drive Information

Description

Name

The name of the disk drive.

Size

The size of the disk drive in bytes.

Vendor

The name of the disk drive vendor.

Model

The model of the disk drive.

Serial Number

The serial number of the disk drive.

Current State

State of the disk drive. For example: OK.

Chassis Serial

The serial number of the chassis.

Storage System

Name of the storage system for this disk drive. This is also a link to the Storage Systems page.

Enclosure Serial

The serial number of the enclosure.

Position

Physical position code of the disk drive in the enclosure.

Hardware Container

Name of the hardware container related to the disk drive.

Software Instances Information

This section provides information about the server hosting the process managing the storage system.

To access the collected information for hosting servers:

  • From the Storage System page, scroll down to the Managed By section and click the name of the host you wish to access.

The table below lists the Software Instance Information as discovered and displayed in the Discovery console.

Name

The name of the host system. Typically composed of the Software Instance Name, the Product Version, and the name of the Host.

Type

The type of the software instance that manages the storage system.

Configipedia Page

The name of the associated Configipedia page link.

Instance Count

The number of identical software instances for the hosting server.

Full Version

The version of the software plus the build number.

Product Version

The version of the software instance.

Host(s)

The name of the server hosting the software instance.

Observed outgoing connections

The list of outgoing connections related to the software instance.

Manages Storage Systems

The list of the storage systems managed by the software instance.  Refer to the Storage Systems Information section for details.

Maintaining Pattern

The pattern used to create the software instance.

Primary processes

The primary process that identifies this software.

Storage Processors Information

The storage processors associated with a storage device are displayed on the Storage Processors section of the Storage System page.This section provides information about the storage processors managing data transfer for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for storage processors, click the Storage Processor link available in the Storage System page.

Processor Identifier

The processor identifier.

Vendor

The hardware vendor..

Model

The model name.

Description

The model description.

Serial

The serial number of the processor.

Firmware

The firmware details.

Storage System

The name of the storage device. This is also a link to the Storage System page. Refer to the Storage System Information section for details.

Front End FC Ports

List of the front-end FC Ports for this processor.  Refer to the Front End FC Port Information section for details.

Front End FC Ports Information

The front end fibre channel (FC) ports associated with a storage processor are listed on the Front End FC Ports section of the Storage Processor page.This section provides information about the front-end fiber channel ports transmitting data for the selected storage system.

To access the collected information for Frond End Fibre Channel Ports:

  1. From the Storage Processor page, locate the Front End FC Ports section.
  2. Click the link for the port name you wish to access.

The table below lists the Front End FC Ports Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Port Name

The name of the front end FC port.

WWPN

The World Wide Port Name — Unique serial number of the front end FC port.

Role

The role of the FC port. For example, Front End

Type

The front end FC port type. For example, Fabric (N)

State

The front end FC port state. For example, Operational.

Speed

The front end FC port speed (in Gbit/s).

Storage Processor

The storage processor for this port. This is also a link to the Storage Processor page. Refer to the Storage Processors Information section for details.

Connected Storage

Number of Storage Systems related to the FC port. This is also a link to the Storage Systems page.

Storage Connections Information

A Storage connection represents a connection between a storage client (a host using the storage) and a storage volume. The same connection may be linked to multiple volumes representing the client's visibility of multiple storage volumes. The volumes shown are only those that the client is permitted to access. This section provides information about the Storage Connection for the selected storage volume.

To access the collected information for storage connections:

  1. Access the FC Port page.
  2. Click a Connection Name in the Connected Storage section.

The table below lists the Storage Connections Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Connection Name

The name of the connection.

Connection Type

The type of storage connection.

Connection Value

A unique identifier for the storage consumer using this connection.

Storage Volumes

The name of any storage volumes visible to the host using this connection.

Consumer Fibre Chanel Port

Information on the Fiber channel port on the host using this connection.

Storage Pools Information

This section provides information about the storage pools for the selected storage system.

  1. To access the collected information for storage pools, click the Storage Pools link available in the Storage System page.
  2. In the Storage Pools list, double-click the storage pool you wish to access.

The table below lists the Storage Pools Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Pool ID

The ID of the storage pool.

Type

The type of the storage pool. For example, Concrete Pool.

Name

The name of the storage pool.

RAID Level

The RAID level of the storage pool.

Capacity

The usable capacity of the storage pool.

Consumed Capacity

The space actually consumed in the storage pool.

Percentage Consumed

The percentage of space consumed in the storage pool

Available Capacity

The total capacity not consumed in the storage system.

Subscribed Capacity

The total subscribed capacity in the storage pool.

Percentage Subscribed

The percentage of space subscribed in the storage pool.

Configured Volume Capacity

The sum of all volumes capacity.

Oversubscribed Capacity

The total space oversubscribed in the storage pool.

Storage System

The name of the storage system for this storage pool. This is also a link to the Storage Systems page. Refer to the Storage Systems Information section for details.

Storage Volumes

The volumes for the storage pool. This is also a link to the Storage Volumes page. Refer to the Storage Volumes Information section for details.

Storage Volumes Information

This section provides information about the storage volumes for the selected storage system.

  1. To access the collected information for storage volumes, click the Storage Volumes link available in the Storage System page.
  2. In the Storage Volumes list, double-click the storage volume you wish to access.

The table below lists the Storage Volumes Information as discovered and displayed in the BMC Discovery console.

Volume ID

The ID of the storage volume.

Name

The name of the storage volume.

NAA ID

The Network Address Authority ID.

Mapped

Indicates whether or not the storage volume is mapped.

Thinly Provisioned

Indicates whether the volume are thinly provisioned or not. For example, if the volumes are not thinly provisioned, it displays No.

Visible Capacity

The visible capacity of the storage volume (in GiB).

Consumed From Pool

The capacity consumed from the storage pool related to the storage volume (in GiB).

Consumable Capacity

The consumable capacity in the storage volume (in GiB).

Percentage of Pool Consumed

The percentage of capacity consumed in the storage volume.

Block Size

The block size of the storage volume.

Number of Blocks

The number of blocks of the storage volume.

Consumable Blocks

The number of consumable blocks of the storage volume.

Storage Pool

Name of the storage pool for this storage volume. This is also a link to the Storage Pools page. Refer to the Storage Pools Information section for details.
