Creating a Storwize V7000 Unified User


1. Access the IBM Storwize® V7000 Unified management User Interface.

2. Log on using the Admin credentials (typically admin/admin).

3. In the Access > Users panel, click the Create User button.

4. The Create User dialog is displayed.

5. Provide a name for the new user, enter a password and confirm it.

6. Click OK to save your information.

7. A message states that the creation of the new user is confirmed.

8. Click Close.

9. For security purpose, the new user credentials are temporary and the Password State is automatically set to ‘expired’ by default.

10. The new user Password needs to be activated. To do so, log off the IBM Storwize® V7000 Unified management GUI and log on again with the new user ‘Username’ and ‘Password.

11. The Password State is now Active.

The new user account can now be used to configure BMC Discovery for IBM Storwize storage.

Because some connectivity issues may exist and cause the storage discovery to fail, it is highly recommended to test the connection to these specific software components.

Testing the connection

The storage patterns rely on software components such as SMI-S providers to discover the storage systems in BMC Discovery.

Pre-requisites

The WBEM Troubleshooting Tool provided by Sentry Software requires Java v1.6 or higher to operate properly. Download the IBM SVC-Storwize Troubleshooting Tool.

Procedure

1. Run the command java -jar WBEM-Troubleshooting-Tool.jar to launch the troubleshooting tool.

2. Enter all the information required to connect to the system.

Note: The connection can be tested with a user that has read-only access.

3. Click Test Connection, to run the queries.

4. Wait for the test to complete. If a connectivity issue is detected, an error message detail the origin of the problem. If the connection test is successful, this message is displayed:

5. Optional – Click Save As to export the connection test results into a .txt file.
