IBM DS8000 Storage Systems (REST)

IBM DS8000 storage systems are discovered via the embedded REST API. As part of routine discovery, when an IBM DS8000 system is encountered, BMC Discovery creates a storage device node and triggers the IBM DS8000 Storage Systems (REST) pattern. The pattern continues the discovery using further REST API requests. Once discovered, the storage entities are modeled in BMC Discovery.

Prerequisites

• A user account with REST API access 
• Port 8452 added to the list of HTTPS ports under “Administration → Discovery Configuration.

Procedure

Initial setup

1. Go to “Manage → Credentials”,
2. Add new credentials of type “IBM DS8000 REST API”
3. Provide the user account with REST API access
4. Add port 8452
5. Click Apply.

Test credentials

To prevent discovery issues due to invalid credentials, it is recommended to test your credentials before running a scan:

1. Go to “Manage → Credentials”
2. Click the "Action → Test" menu next to the credentials entry
3. In the Test URL field, type https://<IP> or <HOSTNAME>:<PORT>/api/v1/systems. Port is 8452 by default
4. Click Test. 

If your test is successful, scan the IP Address of the IBM DS8000 system.
