Installing and configuring IBM DS Storage Manager (Windows)


The IBM DS Storage Manager is installed by using graphical or unattended (silent) mode for Windows operating systems. It can be accessed remotely from any location that has network access using a Web browser. The result of the installation is access to a configuration tool that can be used in offline or online settings.

Port configuration

  • Specify Ports for the DS Storage Manager to use (or accept defaults).

SSL configuration

  • Specify the location of an existing certificate

OR

  • Enter the key file and trust file passwords to generate a certificate.

SSL configuration (generate certificate)

  1. Enter additional information for the SSL certificate (optional).
  2. Click Install.
  3. Reboot the server after installation.

Configuring the IBM Storage Manager

The installation of the IBM created two new services, and several new items will also be available from the Start menu.

  1. Click Open DS Storage Manager. The default username is "admin", and the password is "admin".
  2. On the Main Storage Manager page:
    1. Specify a new admin password on the next page.
    2. Under Real-Time Manager > Manage Hardware, select Storage Complexes.
    3. Select a management console (check the highlighted box).
    4. From the Select Action list, select Assign Storage Unit.
  3. Assign Storage Unit:
    1. Enter a Nickname.
    2. Enter the two IP addresses of the DS6000 series controller cards.
    3. Enter the last 7 digits of the serial number listed on the storage unit (the serial number can be found under the right-hand bezel of the storage unit).
    4. Click Next
    5. Enter Gateway and Subnet Mask information.
    6. Click Next and then Finish. The DS6000 Storage Manager will now try to add your unit. This process can take some time. If you have multiple units to add, you can click Close and View Summary.
    7. Repeat Process for Each DS6000 unit.
