In the Spotlight March 2009

We focused our effort on expanding coverage of Oracle products and providing deeper discovery of the Oracle-Database product with a view to reducing cost of Oracle license audits.

These are the new features that Foundation is now equipped with:

  • Oracle Database Listening Port & Global Name: providing the capability of automatically inferring Listening Port and Global Name for any Oracle Database Instance which enables Tideway to query the database tables.
  • Oracle Database Installed Options: providing the capability to identify which Options are installed in an Oracle Database installation.

Oracle Database Listening Port & Global Name

The new Oracle Database pattern now includes functionalities that extract Listening Port and Global Name from any Oracle Database Instance. This is accomplished with 2 different possible methods, thus increasing the likelihood of success.

Extracting the Listening Port of an Oracle Database Instance was a key goal for us, as it enables ease of use of many of our new Foundation 7.2 patterns, which make use of SQL DB Queries to extract advanced information.

This ScreenShot clearly displays how Listening Port and Global Name are visualized when viewing a Software Instance of Oracle Database.

Oracle Database Installed Options

A brand new pattern is now able to dynamically query any Oracle RDBMS Instance, and determine whether certain Options are Installed or not. These Options include OLAP and Partitioning. However, the list of Options which the pattern is looking for is entirely customizable.

Each Installed Option is added to the Oracle Database Software Instance as a Detail, and is displayed in a Table.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
