In the Spotlight December 2008

In December TKU we focused our development on a range of Microsoft and BEA products, the goals for this release being Business Applications and License Management. The patterns for 2 of these products, Microsoft Dymanics CRM and Microsoft Project Server, deliver an out-of-the-box BAI. Furthermore, BEA AquaLogic Business Process Management and Acresso FLEXnet Publisher patterns deliver detailed Licensing Data.

We are showcasing these 4 products.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM

The peculiarity of this pattern lies in its capability to aggregate several different SIs around its main Software Instance, and subsequently model a Business Application Instance.

BEA AquaLogic Business Process Management

The peculiarities of this pattern are 2: its ability to extract Licensing Data about the product, and display it in the Software Instance, is one. Furthermore, the pattern is able to determine which remote Database BEA AquaLogic BPM is communicating with. This information is also stored and displayed in the SI. All these attributes, Licensing Data and Database communication, are also accessible via custom Reports.

This ScreenShot shows a Software Instance of BEA AquaLogic Business Process Management. You can see that the Licensing attributes, Licensee, License Type, Expiry Data and CPUs Licensed are clearly displayed. Furthermore, the Remote DB Type attribute shows us which Database the application is communicating with, plus you can clearly see the specific Oracle SID, and the IP address of the Database host. Finally, the Peers attribute allows you to see a quick summary of the remote Database SI, which can be clicked upon, and be analyzed in more detail.

Acresso FLEXnet Publisher

A detailed demonstration of the capabilities of this pattern, which include retrieving Licensing Data and storing it in vendor-independent format, can be seen at this page. The demonstration also includes a Video Tutorial, showcasing the capabilities of the pattern.
