Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2024-Sep-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-Sep-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, and 24.3 versions of BMC Discovery.

In this release, we are delivering:

Cloud

AZURE: Added support for Azure ExpressRoute Direct (Ports). For more details, see (DRDC1-24084) and the documentation here.
AZURE: Added support for Azure ExpressRoute Gateways. For more details, see (DRDC1-24084) and the documentation here.
AZURE: Updated the type attribute for Azure ExpressRoute Circuits. For more details, see (DRDC1-24084) and the documentation here.
KUBERNETES: Changed the Kubernetes cluster node type to the unified one, Kubernetes Cluster, for the following Cloud scans (for more details, see (DRDC1-23403):
OPENSTACK: Added RAM and CPU information to OpenStack Nova VMs. For more details, see (DRDC1-23986) and the documentation here.
OPENSTACK: Updated the OpenStack pattern to set all_tenants to True when scanning OpenStack Nova and OpenStack Octavia. For more details, see (DRDC1-20288) and the documentation here.

CMDB sync

Added an ability to optionally modify the CTI (category, type, item) values. By default, the CTI values remain "Unknown". HEADS-UP: In 4 or 6 months, we will change the default CTI values. For more details, see (DRDC1-23486) and the documentation here

Introduced multiple improvements to Kubernetes (for more details, see (DRDC1-23311):
- HEADS-UP: CMDB.Namespace_Deployment_ConcreteCollection.Namespace_Deployment_ConcreteCollection is replaced with the CMDB.Pod_Deployment_ConcreteCollection.Pod_Deployment_ConcreteCollection pattern.
- HEADS-UP: The major version of the CMDB.Namespace_AdminDomain.Namespace_AdminDomain pattern is changed.

Patterns

Added the CrowdStrike Sensor Platform package to the list of package regexes used by pattern for CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor versioning. For more details, see (DRDC1-24166) and the documentation here.
CERTIFICATES: Added permission for the certificate scan on Software AG webMethods Integration Server software instances. For more details, see (DRDC1-24269) and the documentation here.
CERTIFICATES: Added support for discovering a certificate under IBM Sterling B2B Integrator. For more details, see (DRDC1-24181) and the documentation here.
Updated the pattern to discover database details for the clustered SAP HANA environment. For more details, see (DRDC1-21937) and the documentation here.

Storage

HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes will be deprecated in 4 or 6 months. Added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC SC Series patterns. It is identical to the "Allocated Capacity" attribute. Also, added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute to the IBM FlashSystem pattern. For more details, see (DRDC1-22592).

Release compatibility

TKU 2024-Sep-1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, and 24.2.

- Network Device Integration Module with associated Network Device definition files, Printer definition files, and SNMP managed devices definition files.
- System - Patterns that detect configuration issues and populate Discovery Conditions BMC Discovery 21.3, BMC Discovery 22.1, BMC Discovery 22.2, BMC Discovery 23.1, BMC Discovery 23.3, BMC Discovery 24.1, BMC Discovery 24.2, and patterns used by the BMC CMDB sync system.

BMC Discovery Extended Data Pack 2024-Sep-1
- Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
- National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
- Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.

BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
- Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
- Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.

BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
