Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2024-Nov-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-Nov-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, and 24.3 versions of BMC Discovery.

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering:

CMDB sync

Updated the tag synchronization approach to prevent performance load. Now, customers can modify or disable tags belonging to a certain category. Customers who may have written custom code for tags in the current sync mapping patterns should review the code and move it to the appropriate new sync mapping patterns. For more details, see (DRDC1-24706) and the documentation here. The three pattern modules are as follows:
- CMDB.Cloud_Tags (BMC_DataBase (Cloud), BMC_LogicalSystemComponent, etc.)
- CMDB.Kubernetes_Tags (BMC_ConcreteCollection (Deployment), BMC_AdminDomain (Namespace)
- CMDB.Tags (BMC_ComputerSystem, BMC_Cluster, etc.)
Added an ability to optionally modify the CTI (category, type, item) values. By default, the CTI values remain "Unknown". HEADS-UP: In TKU April 2025, we will change the default CTI values. For more details, see (DRDC1-23486) and the documentation here

Added a subject_alternative_names attribute to sync AWS certificates correctly. For more details, see (DRDC1-24420) and the documentation here.

Cloud

CLOUD/AZURE: Added support for Microsoft Azure Virtual Network Gateways. For more details, see (DRDC1-24085) and the documentation here.
CLOUD/AZURE: Added the following attributes for Microsoft Azure SQL Databases (for more details, see (DRDC1-24224) and the documentation here):
- database_kind
- license_type
- sku_capacity
- sku_name
- sku_tier

CLOUD/AZURE: Added the following license-type attributes for Microsoft Azure virtual machines (for more details, see (DRDC1-24223) and the documentation here):
- creation_time
- image_id
- image_sku
- license_type
- image_version
- num_cores
CLOUD/OCI: Added a visualization link between CloudService and HardwareContainer. For more details, see (DRDC1-24453).

Network devices

Enhanced LLDP processing for Huawei routers. For more details, see (DRDC1-24792).
Updated the device type for devices in stack. For more details, see (DRDC1-23095).

Storage

EMC: Added support for the discovery of EMC PowerVault Enclosures MD1200 and MD2400. For more details, see (DRDC1-23667) and the documentation here.
HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes will be deprecated in TKU April 2025. Added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC SC Series patterns. It is identical to the "Allocated Capacity" attribute. Also, added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute to the IBM FlashSystem pattern. For more details, see (DRDC1-22592).

Release compatibility

TKU 2024-Nov-1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, and 24.3.

- Core - Patterns that model various software products.
- Extended Database discovery - Patterns that extend some of the core database patterns to obtain additional detailed information about certain databases.
- Middleware discovery - Patterns that obtain detailed information about certain J2EE Application Servers and Web servers.
- Network Device Integration Module with associated Network Device definition files, Printer definition files, and SNMP managed devices definition files.
- System - Patterns that detect configuration issues and populate Discovery Conditions BMC Discovery 22.1, BMC Discovery 22.2, BMC Discovery 23.1, BMC Discovery 23.3, BMC Discovery 24.1, BMC Discovery 24.2, BMC Discovery 24.3and patterns used by the BMC CMDB sync system.

BMC-Discovery-Extended-Data-Pack-2024-Nov-1
- Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
- National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
- Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.

BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
- Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
- Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.

BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
