Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2024-May-1


BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-May-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, and 24.2 versions of BMC Discovery.

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering:

Cloud

  • AWS: Optimized AWS scanning with large numbers of Route 53 instances. For more details, see (DRDC1-22641) and the documentation here.
  • AZURE: Added a NetworkService node for each Azure DNS Zone and Azure DNS Private Zone. For more details, see (DRDC1-23048) and the documentation here.
  • AZURE: Added support for Azure Event Hubs deep discovery. For more details, see (DRDC1-23049) and the documentation here.
  • KUBERNETES: Fixed an issue with missing master node SIs on the AKS clusters. For more details, see (DRDC1-23243) and the documentation  here.
  • OCI: Added support for OCI cross-tenancy API user authentication. For more details, see (DRDC1-22361) and the documentation here.

CMDB Sync

  • Fixed a mapping error in extension "CMDB.Depended_Services.Depended_Services". For more details, see (DRDC1-23220).

Network devices

  • Added support for the implicit scanning of the Cisco Meraki dashboard API. For more details, see (DRDC1-17769) and the documentation  here andhere.

Patterns

  • For the ProcessorInfo BSD pattern, updated the CPU details parser and added new CPU models. For more details, see (DRDC1-22398) and the documentation here.

Storage

  • HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes will be deprecated in TKU March 2025. Added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC SC Series patterns. It is identical to the "Allocated Capacity" attribute. Also, added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute to the IBM FlashSystem pattern. For more details, see (DRDC1-22592).

Release compatibility

TKU 2024-May 1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, and 24.2.

The release comprises components packaged as the following entities:

  • BMC-Discovery-Extended-Data-Pack-2024-May-1
    • Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
    • National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
    • Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.
  • BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
    • Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
    • Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.
  • BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
