Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2024-Jun-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-Jun-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, and 24.2 versions of BMC Discovery.

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering:

Cloud

AZURE: Added deep discovery for Microsoft Azure Log Analytics workspaces (Azure Operational Insights). For more details, see (DRDC1-23415) and the documentation here.
GCP: Improved GCP discovery launched through BMC Outpost. For more details, see (DRDC1-23532) and the documentation here.

CMDB Sync

Added a relationship between the LoadBalancerGroup and Technical Service CI. For more details, see (DRDC1-23524) and the documentation here.
Fixed an issue related to the sync of EOL and EOS dates from BMC Helix Discovery to BMC Helix CMDB. For more details, see (DRDC1-23620).
Updated linking between Hosts and StorageSystems. For more details, see (DRDC1-23245).

Patterns

KUBERNETES: The following improvements are made to the Kubernetes pattern:
- Added support for K3s — Lightweight Kubernetes (DRDC1-22538).
- Added the --kubeconfig=/etc/kubernetes/admin.conf option for kubectl K8s commands (DRDC1-23014).
LOAD BALANCERS: Improved the Nginx LB Service protocol attribute assignment. Also, the SSL Certificate Detail node is now modeled and linked to the Nginx LB Service node. For more details, see (DRDC1-23153) and the documentation here.
Updated Podman containers discovery. For more details, see (DRDC1-23456) and the documentation here.
Updated the Tomcat Extended Discovery pattern to add extra checking before we create a SoftwareComponent. This means that Discovery needs permission to read the metadata of the web.xml files in the web application or no SoftwareComponent will be created. For more details, see (DRDC1-22925) and the documentation here.

Storage

HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes will be deprecated in TKU March 2025. Added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC SC Series patterns. It is identical to the "Allocated Capacity" attribute. Also, added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute to the IBM FlashSystem pattern. For more details, see (DRDC1-22592).
NetApp Storage System: Added a new "High Availability" relationship to represent two physical storage system nodes existing in "High-Availability Pair" (HA Pair). For more details, see (DRDC1-23080) and the documentation here.

TKU 2024-Jun 1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, and 24.2.

- System - Patterns that detect configuration issues and populate Discovery Conditions BMC Discovery 21.05, BMC Discovery 21.3, BMC Discovery 22.1, BMC Discovery 22.2, BMC Discovery 23.1, BMC Discovery 23.3, BMC Discovery 24.1, BMC Discovery 24.2, and patterns used by the BMC CMDB sync system.

BMC-Discovery-Extended-Data-Pack-2024-Jun-1
- Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
- National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
- Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.

BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
- Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
- Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.

BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
