Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2024-Feb-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-Feb-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, and 24.1 versions of BMC Discovery.

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering:

Cloud

  • AWS: Introduced the following updates for the AWS Cloud Regions map (for more details, see (DRDC1-22594) and the documentation here):
    • New cloud regions: Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) (ap-south-2), Canada West (Calgary) (ca-west-1), Melbourne (ap-southeast-4), Tel Aviv (il-central-1), and Zurich (eu-central-2).
    • Country labels in the Region location field.
    • New endpoints.

CMDB sync

  • EOL: Added a pattern for the synchronization of EOL dates to the BMC CMDB. Note that this requires the BMC CMDB to be extended to support the following new attributes: EndOfExtendedSupport, EndOfLife, EndOfSecuritySupport, and EndOfSupport. For more details, see (DRDC1-21798) and the documentationhere andhere.

  • We now set the value for the ManufacturerName attribute to the BMC_LogicalSystemComponent from the publisher value of the NetworkService nodes created in Cloud discovery. For more details, see (DRDC1-22646) and (DRDC1-22484).

Network devices

  • Added the last_status_change attribute to Network Interface. For more details, see (DRDC1-21669).
  • We now discover hardware components for Palo Alto Firewalls. For more details, see (DRDC1-22648) and the documentation here.

Patterns

  • HEADS-UP: PostgreSQL RDBMS: Starting from December TKU 2023, the PostgreSQL pattern no longer creates SoftwareCluster nodes. What PostgreSQL considers to be a cluster is different to what BMC Discovery considers to be a cluster. You can still find instance information on the SoftwareInstance. For more details, see (DRDC1-21303) and the documentation here.
  • IBM DB2 RDBMS: Updated the pattern to discover "Max amount of memory" and "Max number of cores". For more details, see (DRDC1-22265) and the documentation here.
  • Key change: HP Vertica: Updated the pattern to use the SoftwareCluster key for Database nodes instead of the SI key. For more details, see (DRDC1-22625) and the documentation here.
  • Nutanix: Unified the Nutanix discovery model so that when scanning with REST and SSH methods, all types of Nutanix Acropolis (KVM) nodes are created with the same key. This update prevents duplicates creation. For more details, see (DRDC1-19313) and the documentation here.
  • Nutanix: Updated the pattern to prevent ECA errors after upgrading to TKU January 2024. For more details, see (DRDC1-22674) and the documentation here.

Latest releases updates

You can find information about the latest TKU updates and essential notes in the Schedule-and-Roadmap.

  • TLS Certificate checking: BMC Discovery and BMC Discovery Outpost check the TLS certificate against GCP. You can clear the check box to disable the TLS certificate and check if the certificate is invalid. In such a case, be aware that a hacker attack could intercept your credentials.

Release compatibility

TKU 2024-Feb-1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, and 24.1.
