BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-Dec-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, and 24.3 versions of BMC Discovery.

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering:

Cloud

AZURE: Added an ability to detect OS info on the autoscaling VMs created for the Scale Set. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-24172).
GCP: Improved the GCP Kubernetes discovery to prevent duplicated clusters for GCP and Kubernetes API scan. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-25030).
EOL: Added EOL info for Kubernetes clusters. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-23848).

CMDB sync

Added an ability to optionally modify the CTI (category, type, item) values. By default, the CTI values remain "Unknown". HEADS-UP: In TKU April 2025, we will change the default CTI values. For more details, see the documentation here

Added linking between cluster and software instance for the Microsoft Azure SQL Virtual Cluster. For more details, see the documentationhere and (DRDC1-24194).
Resolved a cardinality issue related to the introduction of Nutanix REST API V3. For more details, see the documentationhere and (DRDC1-24168).
Updated the Host_OperatingSystem pattern to report OSType as Windows for the Windows OS family. For more details, see (DRDC1-24544).

Network devices

Set REST API as the primary method of discovering Citrix NetScaler ADC and building the Load Balancer model; the combination of REST API and SNMP credentials for Citrix NetScaler ADC is no longer required. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-16833).

Patterns

EOL: Added EOL info for Clusters and SoftwareCluster node kinds. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-24182).
Improved version assignment to Kubernetes clusters. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-24271).

Storage

HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes will be deprecated in TKU April 2025. Added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC SC Series patterns. It is identical to the "Allocated Capacity" attribute. Also, added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute to the IBM FlashSystem pattern. For more details, see (DRDC1-22592).
Added support for TrueNAS Core/Scale Storage Systems. For more details, see the documentation here and (DRDC1-23662).

TKU 2024-Dec-1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, 24.1, 24.2, and 24.3.

- System - Patterns that detect configuration issues and populate Discovery Conditions BMC Discovery 22.1, BMC Discovery 22.2, BMC Discovery 23.1, BMC Discovery 23.3, BMC Discovery 24.1, BMC Discovery 24.2, BMC Discovery 24.3and patterns used by the BMC CMDB sync system.

BMC-Discovery-Extended-Data-Pack-2024-Dec-1
- Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
- National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
- Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.

BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
