Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2024-Apr-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-Apr-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, and 24.1 versions of BMC Discovery.

Cloud

AZURE: We now support the discovery of Azure Stack. For more details, see (DRDC1-17509) and the documentation here.

EOL

Patterns

Added the age_count check to Nutanix hypervisors. For more details, see (DRDC1-21954) and the documentation here.
IMPORTANT: Introduced the following updates to the Red Hat OpenShift/Kubernetes patterns:
- Added support for modeling DeploymentConfig resources as Deployment nodes kind of type "DeploymentConfig" in API discovery (DRDC1-22677).
- Added used CPU and used memory parameters to Resource Quota (DRDC1-22693).
Fixed an issue with incorrect VM tags while scanning VMware instances. For more details, see (DRDC1-21183) and the documentation here.
Updated the VMware vCenter Server pattern to include the UPTIME information. For more details, see (DRDC1-22880) and the documentation here.
Updated the VMware Virtual Machine pattern to maintain object and data continuity for a VMware virtual machine even when the virtual machine moves to another host through vMotion. For more details, see (DRDC1-18091) and the documentation here.

Storage

Host Side Linking/new: Improved the pattern to use EUI for Host Side Linking between Pure Storage FlashArray and ESXi hosts. For more details, see (DRDC1-22797) and the documentation here.
HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes will be deprecated in TKU March 2025. Added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC SC Series patterns. It is identical to the "Allocated Capacity" attribute. Also, added the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute to the IBM FlashSystem pattern. For more details, see (DRDC1-22592).
IBM TS4300: Created a default storage system for the IBM TS4300 Tape Library storage device discovered through REST API. For more details, see (DRDC1-23032) and the documentation here.

TKU 2024-Apr 1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, and 24.1.

- Extended Database discovery - Patterns that extend some of the core database patterns to obtain additional detailed information about certain databases.
- Middleware discovery - Patterns that obtain detailed information about certain J2EE Application Servers and Web servers.
- Network Device Integration Module with associated Network Device definition files, Printer definition files, and SNMP managed devices definition files.
- System - Patterns that detect configuration issues and populate Discovery Conditions BMC Discovery 21.05, BMC Discovery 21.3, BMC Discovery 22.1, BMC Discovery 22.2, BMC Discovery 23.1, BMC Discovery 23.3, BMC Discovery 24.1 and patterns used by the BMC CMDB sync system.

BMC-Discovery-Extended-Data-Pack-2024-Apr-1
- Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
- National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
- Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.

BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
- Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
- Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.

BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
