BMC Discovery Extended Data Pack 2024-Feb-1

BMC Discovery Extended Data Pack 2024-Feb-1 is a deliverable for BMC Discovery 20.08, 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, and 23.3 series.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU February 2024 has been updated:
 - For Red Hat Enterprise Linux, its ELS dates relate to the major versioning level. However, should a customer wish to remain on a specific minor version for longer, an optional Extended Update Support (EUS) package can be purchased. For the OperatingSystem SupportDetail pattern, the EOL entries for Red Hat Enterprise Linux have been moved out into a standalone SupportDetail pattern. This allows a customer to either receive EOL data at the major (ELS) versioning level (the default) or, upon setting a configuration option within the pattern,  to receive EOL data at the minor (EUS) versioning level.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU November 2023 has been updated:
 - For the SoftwareInstance SupportDetail pattern, it now checks whether the service pack attribute of a SoftwareInstance on which it has triggered is of the form 'SP<integer>', thus preventing a further 'SP' from being prepended within the name attribute of the SupportDetail node.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU October 2023 has been updated:

- Added a pattern for the synchronization of EOL dates to the CMDB. Note that this requires the CMDB to be extended to support the following new attributes: EndOfExtendedSupport, EndOfLife, EndOfSecuritySupport, and EndOfSupport.

- Now checks that os_version (Operating System SupportDetail pattern) or product_version (SoftwareInstance, RuntimeEnvironment and VirtualMachine SupportDetail patterns) is populated prior to performing table lookups.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU August 2023 has been updated:
 - It now includes EOL data for Hardware Containers.
 - Discovery's taxonomy has been updated so that the "Retirement Date defaulted to EOS date" attribute is now visible in the UI's SupportDetail node summary.
 - We have also added a little more intelligent in how we apply failure reason codes. If the EOL entry, after copying the End of Support date to the Retirement date, has all EOL date attributes populated, the assignment of a failure reason is suppressed.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU July 2023 now features revised SupportDetail patterns for OperatingSystem, RuntimeEnvironment and VirtualMachine where the wildcard lookup table has been removed and all EOL entries within have been expanded and placed in the normal lookup table. This should result in such patterns running much faster as they will no longer have to step through every entry in the wildcard lookup table for every node type. This brings these three SupportDetail patterns into line with the one for SoftwareInstance where such work was done in an earlier release.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU March 2023 now includes a new report showing EOL failure reasons.

Note

For the Extended Data Pack TKU December 2022, the SupportDetail patterns were reworked to prevent SupportDetail nodes from being destroyed if their one and only primary evidence (i.e. the SoftwareInstance node that caused its creation) is itself destroyed. The revised pattern now ensures that a relationship link is created for every node associated with a SupportDetail node. In a larger environment, there may be a one-time performance slowdown whilst such relationship links are being created.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU November 2022 now includes EOL data for Printers and Hardware Components.

Note

The Extended Data Pack TKU February 2022 now features vendor-product_model and vendor-known_model_name pairs in the Host Support Detail pattern module's lookup table, allowing hardware EOL to be added to hosts without a product_model attribute such as partitioned ones.

Contents

  • Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of certain operating systems, software products, network devices, storage devices, hosts, and host containers (blade enclosures)

Reasons

Within Discovery, you may find a failure reason attribute attached to a Support Detail node which describes the current state of the Support Detail node with regard to its missing End Of Life data:

Failure Reason for Host (Operating System), Software Instance, Runtime Environment and Virtual Machine

Failure Reason for Network Devices and Storage Devices

Explanation

EOL dates are only available with a vendor support login.

EOL dates may or may not have been published behind a support logon.

The EOL dates come from the host operating system.

The EOL dates come from the host operating system.

Information pending.

The BMC Discovery TKU team has yet to carry out an extensive search to ascertain whether End Of Life data for the product/model can be found.

Published dates are invalid.

The publisher/vendor has published End Of Life dates for this version of the product/model but they are incomprehensible or in conflict and would cause confusion if added to Discovery. Such confusing dates might be the End of Support date expiring before the Retirement date.

Firmware version is too recent.

The publisher/vendor has yet to publish End Of Life data for such a (firmware) version as it is too new.

Omitted to avoid conflict as published EOL dates are at different versioning level.

The EOL dates for this product/firmware version have been omitted as the published EOL dates are for a different versioning level and if applied would result in a conflict.
