Viewing log files

BMC Discovery enables you to access logs to help you diagnose problems with CMDB-synchronization and writing patterns. You can watch logfiles in the BMC Discovery UI, or you can download them to analyze on your local computer.

To view or download the logs

  1. From the main menu, click the Administration icon.
    The
    Administration page opens.
  2. From the Appliance section, click Logs.
  3. Select the Log files tab.
A list of all the available logs is displayed on the Appliance Logs page.

  4. Each log has links in the Actions column that enable you to watch or to perform other operations on the log:
    • To download a log, click the Download link next to a log. You can then choose to open or save the text document for that log.
    • To compress a log, click the Compress link next to a log for larger files that you want to download. The log has a .gz extension and is described as Compressed in the Type column. The Watch link is also removed for that log.

      Note

You cannot uncompress a log using the UI once it has been compressed. However, you can download the compressed log and uncompress it locally.

    • To delete a log, click the Delete link next to a log.
You can also delete old logs by clicking the Delete Old Logs button on the main log display page. An old log is one to which writing has been completed and there is a replacement currently being written.

The log level associated with each message is displayed. For more information about log levels, see Changing-log-levels-at-runtime.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
