Setting up and going live


After you are done installing BMC Discovery from the kickstart DVD (available at the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site)or from the virtual appliance, you can proceed with tasks that help you get the system up and working. These tasks include logging in to the service, securing the appliance, installing optional components like the   BMC Discovery Outpost, and so on. 

 

Before you begin

Make sure that you have completed the BMC Discovery installation process successfully as explained in Installing.

Setting up and going live tasks

As an administrator, perform the following tasks in the specified sequence:

Log in to the BMC Discovery system.

Secure the BMC Discovery appliance.

Install the Windows proxy manager.

(Optional) Download and install the BMC Discovery Outpost.

Perform this task only if you prefer to use the BMC Discovery Outpost instead of Windows proxies.

(Optional) If you have downloaded and installed the BMC Discovery Outpost, then register the BMC Discovery Outpost and the BMC Discovery appliance with each other.

(Optional) If you have downloaded and registered the BMC Discovery Outpost, and if your organization policy dictates the usage of gMSA accounts, then run the BMC Discovery Outpost under a gMSA account.

Set up users and groups.

Set up the appliance identification.
