Cloud migration process

Running your applications in the public cloud has several cost and effort benefits. Many organizations are planning and preparing to move their applications to the cloud to reduce the capital expenses, and the support and administrative costs. Moving into cloud computing requires a lot of planning because you need to determine what it costs to run the same servers in the public cloud before you can finalize the move. Also, after the move, you need to continually focus on how to optimize your cloud-based application in order to increase cost savings.

With TrueSight Cloud Cost Control, you can review and analyze the cost of your current infrastructure and simulate the migration of servers to the public cloud to evaluate the resulting cost.

Here are the key steps for migrating your servers and applications to the public cloud:

  1. Take inventory
  2. Evaluate applications
  3. Analyze cost

The following table provides a brief explanation of each step:

With TrueSight Cloud Cost Control, you can easily review and analyze the costs of your current infrastructure. You can review the currently used servers and business services to decide which can be migrated. For example, you might want to select the most expensive business service that is using servers hosted in your on-premises infrastructure. For more information, see Analyzing-and-forecasting-multi-cloud-costs.

Also, TrueSight Cloud Cost Control enables you to simulate the migration of your servers or applications (business services) to the cloud, and review and evaluate the migration cost. You can use the cost estimates to make an informed decision about moving to the cloud.

You can also view details of the instances that you can provision on the cloud post migration. For example, you can simulate migration of a subset of servers that are currently hosted in your on-premises data center to the public cloud and review the cost difference to evaluate whether they are the right candidates for migration.
