Collecting data


TrueSight Capacity Optimization provides two ways of collecting data for supporting TrueSight Cloud Cost Control use cases:

Connectors or ETL modules

Capacity agents

Connectors can integrate with various data sources by means of ETL modules, that are based on Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) technology.

By leveraging the Gateway Server, operating system data is collected from managed nodes that are running capacity agents.

ETL modules for data collection

The following table lists the ETLs that you must configure and run to import infrastructure, costs, and usage data about your public cloud and on-premises infrastructure into the Capacity Optimization database.

This data is used by the Cost Estimation backend service to estimate costs.

Collects AWS infrastructure data

Collects billing and consumption reports that are generated by AWS. Extracts data related to daily cost, usage, and metadata for your AWS accounts.

Microsoft Azure

Collects Azure infrastructure data

Collects billing and consumption reports that are generated by Azure. Extracts data related to daily cost, usage, and metadata for your Azure accounts.

On-premises (Depending on the technology of your instances, use the appropriate ETL modules.)

Hyper-V

Collects metrics for Hyper-V.

To use the BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser, you must install and configure Capacity Agent and Gateway Server. For more information, see Configuring the Gateway Server and Capacity Agents to collect data.

KVM

Collects metrics for KVM

To use the BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser, you must install and configure Capacity Agent and Gateway Server. For more information, see Configuring the Gateway Server and Capacity Agents to collect data.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV)

Collects metrics for RHEV

Standalone or Virtual Node

Collects metrics for standalone systems

To use the BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser, you must install and configure Capacity Agent and Gateway Server. For more information, see Configuring the Gateway Server and Capacity Agents to collect data.

vSphere

Collects metrics for VMware instances

Xen

Collects metrics for Xen virtual machines

To use the BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser, you must install and configure Capacity Agent and Gateway Server. For more information, see Configuring the Gateway Server and Capacity Agents to collect data.

Note

On-premises cost computation requires that you have already defined the instance-level costs. For more information, see Defining-and-managing-the-on-premises-costs.

For business service details to be displayed on the TrueSight Cloud Cost Control pages, you must first import the data related to your business services into the Capacity Optimization database. For more information, see Collecting-business-service-data.
