Setting up and going live


BMC Helix Continuous Optimizationis a subscription-based service available on BMC Helix Portal.  It enables IT to keep pace with changes in resource demands while still assuring service performance and availability.

Register with BMC and activate BMC Helix Continuous Optimization.

  1. Complete the BMC registration process and understand the subscription information.
    After you subscribe to the service, BMC sends an activation email that contains a link to activate your account and the tenant administrator user name. 
  2. Click Sign in to activate your account and set the tenant administrator password. The tenant administrator is the first user who logs in to the product. This link for setting the password remains active for 120 hours only, after which it expires.

Your free trial remains active for 14 days. During the trial, you get unrestricted access to all the capabilities available with the integrated products and common services.

To continue using the integrated products after the trial expires and for any other queries, contact BMC Support.

Launch BMC Helix Continuous Optimization.

When your account is created, you receive the URL and the credentials to log in to BMC Helix Continuous Optimization.

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Portal. In BMC Helix Portal, you can view the products that you are entitled to access.
  2. Click the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization tile.

Provide consent for data collection.

When you log in for the first time as a tenant administrator, provide your consent for data collection in the Allow data collection for product improvement dialog box. By default, the data collection settings are disabled for a tenant administrator.

To provide your consent for data collection for all the users:

    1. To enable data collection for performance and product improvement, select Enable data collection for performance and product improvement.
    2. To enable data collection for marketing and outreach, select Enable data collection for marketing and outreach.

      Tip

      • To understand the types of data that are collected, expand Click for examples of the types of data we collect for performance and product improvement.
      •  To understand the ways in which the collected data is used, expand Click for examples of ways data may be used for marketing and outreach.
    3. (Optional) To enable data collection for your account, select Turn on data collection for my account for either performance and product improvement or for marketing and outreach or for both.
    4. Click Agree and submit

You can modify your consent for data collection at any time. For more information, see Modifying consent for data collection.

Consent at user level 

If the tenant administrator has consented to data collection, the user will receive a notification.

Users can modify their consent for data collection at any time. For more information, see Viewing and modifying your profile information.

Set up user accounts and grant access.

Some default user roles and permissions are available out-of-the-box when you subscribe to BMC Helix Continuous Optimization. You can start using the product with these users. Additionally, you can configure your identity provider to set up more users and user groups, and assign specific permissions to them. User management functions are performed in BMC Helix Portal.

Set up on-premises data collection server. 

If you plan to collect data from your on-premises data center, download and install the Remote ETL Engine and related components.

Configure data collection.

You can use ETL modules or Capacity Agents to collect data. BMC Helix Continuous Optimization provides out-of-the-box ETLs to collect data from the cloud and on-premises environments.

BMC Helix Continuous Optimizationalso enables you to create custom ETLs by using the ETL Development Kit.

Configure BMC Helix Continuous Optimization according to your business requirements.

Perform administrative tasks, such as installing out-of-the-box capacity views, creating custom views, creating data marts, and configuring alerts and recommendations.

Start using the product features.

Manage the capacity of your environment, perform advanced analysis, and manage future demand.

(Optional) Use integrated products for specific use cases.

Switch between your licensed applications by using the Application switcher icon application_switcher.png in the navigation bar. 

Migrating from TrueSight Capacity Optimization

If you want to use BMC Helix Continuous Optimization to manage the capacity of your on-premises environment that is currently being managed by TrueSight Capacity Optimization, you can migrate data and some of the artifacts created in TrueSight Capacity Optimization to BMC Helix Continuous Optimization. Data retention in BMC Helix Continuous Optimization

The following data retention and storage limitation apply to the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization services:
