Managing events


You can add and edit events from the details page of a domain. To add, edit, and view events, ensure that the role assigned to your user group has additional permissions to the events resource in the core application. 

To add an event

To add a new macroscopic event to a domain, perform the following steps:

  1. Access the required domain by navigating to Workspace > Domains, Services & Applications.
  2. In the details page of the domain, that appears on the right, click Navigate to > Events
  3. Click Add new event in the Top 50 events table.
  4. In the Add Event form, fill in the required parameters, providing information that describes the event in terms of time (start, intervention, stop), knowledge (name, description, notes), importance (severity, occurrences, unavailability), type (classification), and associations (on which objects the event has an impact).
    The Add Event form requires the following parameters:

    Event

    The name of the event; this name is shown in the charts, so it is advisable to use a short, self-explanatory name.

    Description

    Any additional information you want to add for the event.

    Type

    Choose from Domain, System, or Business Driver event.

    Associate with

    Click Edit to choose the objects that this event is associated with; this association determines the visibility of the event in charts, that is, an event will appear only in chart analyses containing at least one of the objects associated with the event. Click Apply to save your preferences. 

    Classification

    Choose from Planned, Not planned (with corresponding subtypes), or Detected.

    This is an event classification that indicates if the event was planned (for example, a maintenance), not planned (for example, a blackout) or detected (generated by detection models).

    The subtypes for Planned event are Generic, Maintenance, and Change.

    The subtypes for Not planned event are Incident, Problem, and Error.

    Periodic event

    Select True or False. If you select True, this option allows you to specify a time period.

    For example, this can indicate a maintenance that is repeated every week.

    Severity

    The severity of an event can be defined by using a discrete scale, ranging from 1 (lowest severity) to 5 (highest severity); you can also log whether the event caused service unavailability or not.

    Event caused service unavailability

    Select True if the service was down during the event, otherwise select False.

    Event occurrence

    The number of times the event took place.

    Begin

    The start date and time of the event.

    Trace intervention time:

    Select True if you want to enter the intervention time to resolve the event.

    End

    The end time of the event (only if the event is not instantaneous).

    Color

    Choose the color that will be used in charts and in the list of event; if a custom color is not specified, the default one for the event class will be used.

    Note

    Add here any further information about the event.

    Depending on the type of the event, some fields may be unavailable; for example, instantaneous events do not require an end time.

  5. When done, click Save to create the macroscopic event.

To edit an event

To edit the properties of an event, navigate to Workspace > Domains, Services & Applications.

  1. In the details page of the domain, that appears on the right, click Navigate to > Events.
  2. From the events table, clickedit_simulation_icon.png to modify the event properties.
    Alternatively, you can also click the event name in the table and then from the event detail pages, click Edit to modify the event.
  3. In the Edit Event form modify in the required parameters and click Save the event.
