Statistics used in out-of-the-box capacity views

When time series data is loaded by an ETL from a data source, it may have unaligned time stamps and duration. BMC Helix Continuous Optimization transforms this data into a form usable for analysis and reporting. All imported samples are available at their original resolution in the raw metric store for three months. The metric store computes hourly aggregate resolution and retains it for a longer period with multiple statistics, such as AVG and Max.

The following statistics are used in calculating the metric values displayed in the out-of-the-box capacity views:

95th percentile

Values are computed by considering the 95th percentile values of hourly samples over the last 30 days. Top 5% spike is not considered. Typically used for utilization or usage metrics.

Trend

Daily growth rate of the metric for the last 30 days. Typically reported for utilization or usage metrics.

Last value

Latest value available for the metric. Typically used for configuration metrics, such as Number of Processors and Total Memory.

Max

Maximum value of the metric in the selected interval. Typically used for storage metrics.

Average

Average value of the metric in the selected interval.  Typically used for reporting count of items, such as the number of VMs in a cluster.
