Architecture
This topic describes the product architecture and the data flow. BMC Helix Continuous Optimization includes both the cloud and on-premises components. Some components of the architecture are mandatory, while others are optional, depending on how you want to collect data from your on-premises environment.
The following table provides information about each of the core functional components.
Component | Details |
---|---|
Cloud components | |
BMC Helix Portal | Tenant administrators use BMC Helix Portal for Setting up user groups. |
BMC Helix Continuous Optimization | The capacity planning and administrative activities are available in the Workspace and Administration tabs. Access the capacity views from the Views tab. The Cloud ETL Engine, preconfigured in BMC Helix, is required for collecting data from the resources of public cloud providers, such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. It supports all the data integration tasks by using connectors that consist of extract, transform, and load (ETL) procedures. |
On-premises components | |
Remote ETL Engine | The Remote ETL Engine (REE) is required for collecting data from the on-premises data center. It supports all the data integration tasks by using connectors that consist of extract, transform, and load (ETL) procedures. Use the HTTPS (443) port for REE. Note: When using the Gateway Server, you must install it on the same computer where the Remote ETL Engine is installed. BMC recommends using a dedicated Remote ETL Engine for processing data from the Gateway Server and a separate Remote ETL Engine for processing data from other on-premises ETLs. |
Gateway Server | (Optional component) The Gateway Server is required for Agent-based operating system data collection from managed nodes. The Gateway Server supports all the commonly used UNIX operating system platforms. One Gateway Server can collect data from many managed nodes. You can schedule and create daily automation runs and a list of nodes by using Gateway Manager. For more information, see System-requirements-for-a-dedicated-Remote-ETL-Engine-and-Gateway-Server. |
Agents | (Optional component) The Agents provide lightweight data collection capabilities for managed computers that run on UNIX and Windows. You must install the Agents with a Gateway Server, and vice versa. One Agent is installed on each managed machine running UNIX or Windows. Agents transfer the collected data to the Gateway Server. This data is processed on the Gateway Server and then imported into . For the list of supported operating systems, see System-requirements-for-the-Continuous-Optimization-Agent. |
