Out-of-the-box integration with BMC Helix Discovery

BMC Helix Continuous Optimization integrates with BMC Helix Discovery that contains business service models to provide visibility into the IT infrastructure managed by BMC Helix Continuous Optimization. A service model is a collection of configuration items that represents a business service. A business service contains one or more business processes. Each process can contain several functional applications, each of which can have multiple configuration items. The service model shows how these processes and configuration items are interconnected. These models serve the following purposes for infrastructure management:

  • Verify how configuration item failures propagate and impact the upstream business services.
  • Visualize the impact to a service and automatically trigger events for further prioritization and faster troubleshooting.

For information about subscribing to the BMC Helix Discovery service, see Onboarding and implementing.

Available capabilities with this integration

With the integration of BMC Helix Continuous Optimization with BMC Helix Discovery, you can create business service models in BMC Helix Discovery by using the Discovery service model entities linked to the imported  BMC Helix Continuous Optimization entities. Any changes that are made to these entities are automatically synced with these business service models so that they always stay current.

The following capabilities are available with this integration:

  • The System type entities that are imported by BMC Helix Continuous Optimization are also imported into BMC Helix Discovery.
  • The BMC Helix Continuous Optimization systems are imported into BMC Helix Continuous Optimization partition in BMC Helix Discovery and are linked to the BMC Helix Discovery systems.
  • The BMC Helix Discovery systems from Global Partition can be included in business services in BMC Helix Continuous Optimization.
  • The BMC Helix Discovery VMs and hosts that are included in the BMC Helix Discovery business service models and linked to the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization systems are imported into BMC Helix Continuous Optimization.
These VMs and hosts are displayed in the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization workspace, under the Services and Applications domain, within the business services, and technical services and application hierarchy. This hierarchy is imported from Discovery service model.

Systems that are imported by other data sources apart from BMC Helix Continuous Optimization are not displayed in the Workspace.

Only the systems that the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization ETLs import show the External identifiers field in BMC Helix Discovery.

In BMC Helix Continuous Optimization, these business services and their applications are grouped under the Services and Applications domain. For more information, see Hierarchies.

You can navigate to BMC Helix Discovery from BMC Helix Continuous Optimization for updating the business services. For more information, see Analyzing-business-services.

Whenever these services are updated in BMC Helix Discovery, these updates are automatically synced with the business services in BMC Helix Continuous Optimization.
