Analyzing the resource usage of servers


Use Workload Assurance to analyze the resource usage of a server according to the applications that run within the server. The server could be a standalone system or a virtual machine that is running in a cloud or on-premises environment. Workload Assurance provides the resource usage according to the processes that run applications.

A workload definition includes a collection of system processes. You can create multiple workload definitions to categorize these processes into multiple workloads that are meaningful for your analysis. Analyzing the resource usage by using Workload Assurance involves defining a workload, analyzing the definition, and updating it till you obtain the right definition.

After you create the definition, you can add it to an agent list while configuring the agent list. When the Agents run, they collect data and send it to the Gateway Server. The Gateway Server creates workloads in the Workspace according to the definition and ingests the workload data into BMC Helix Continuous Optimization. You can then analyze this time series data by performing the advanced analysis, such as what-if analysis.
