Working with tags

A tag is a text label associated with a BMC Helix Continuous Optimization entity (system, business driver, domain) that improves search results and applies an additional level of filtering. Tags are used to indicate a particular feature of the object that distinguishes it from other objects. BMC Helix Continuous Optimization provides a set of tags and also lets you define custom tags for specific needs.

Tags are grouped by tag type. For example:

  • Environment (example, PRODUCTION or TEST)
  • Attention level (example, BUSINESS_CRITICAL)

To add a tag

  1. Click Add tag.
  2. Enter a name for the new tag.
  3. Select a tag type from the list or enter a name to create a new tag type. For example, CPU Family, Virtualization Technology.
  4. Click Add Tag.

The following video (3:05) explains the Tag feature and demonstrates how to create and use tags.

Viewing tags

From the summary section of the detail page, view the tags that are associated with an object. The following is an example of a system with multiple tags:

Searching for systems by using tags

You can search for systems with tags "x86" and "VMware" by using the search string:

x86 AND VMware

To restrict the search to only tags:

tag:x86 AND tag:VMware

For more information, see Search-in-Workspace.

Filtering results of analyses and models by using tags

Using tag-based search conditions in entity filters, filter the search results of analyses and models.

For example, define a filter to identify systems with tags "x86" and "VMware" and save the search as an entity filter. For more information, see Managing-entity-filters.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
