Future Saturation page in the vSphere Infrastructure view

Use the Future Saturation page in the vSphere Infrastructure view to get a quick view of the vSphere infrastructure providers that have exhausted or exhausting resources (CPU, memory, storage) within the next 30 days. All values are calculated over the last full month, and the current month.

To access the page, in the Views tab navigation pane, click Views > Virtualization > vSphere > Infrastructure, and in the vSphere Infrastructure page, click the Future Saturation tab

The data in the page is categorized based on systems and grouped under separate tabs. Click a tab to view the metrics for that subsystem:

  • Clusters
  • Datastores

Scenario

Teresa is a vSphere Technology Specialist in an IT organization. She manages and monitors the vSphere infrastructure to make sure that there are sufficient resources (CPU, memory, and storage) to meet the current and future capacity requirements.

Teresa wants to know whether any of the resources are at risk of saturation. She would like to Identify the infrastructure elements that have at least one resource that is saturated or is nearing saturation.

Alan, an administrator, installs the vSphere views and provides the required permissions to Teresa to access the view. With vSphere views, Teresa can quickly get the information that she wants. The Future Saturation page in the vSphere Infrastructure view provides a list of the infrastructure elements that have saturated or are nearing saturation with the set of key metrics. Additionally Teresa can use the Recommendations page to review the recommended actions that can be taken to resolve any saturation issues that can occur in the future.

Review the following example video to view a list of clusters that are saturated or nearing saturation and analyze the saturated cluster:

Clusters metrics

The Clusters tab displays the capacity status of clusters, daily trends, and the estimated number of days to saturation. Each row in the table corresponds to a vSphere cluster and displays the following information.

For more information about the Days to Saturation and other indicator parameters used for metric computations in this view, see Indicators.

Datastores metrics

The Datastores tab displays the capacity status of datastores, daily trends, and the estimated number of days to saturation. Each row in the table corresponds to a datastore and displays the following information.

For more information about the Days to Saturation and other indicator parameters used for metric computations in this view, see Indicators.

Detailed information about a specific vSphere cluster

After you click on the vSphere cluster in the Cluster column, the details for that cluster are displayed in the Cluster details page. The Cluster details page displays information for the selected cluster under the following sections or panels:

Section or Panel

Description

Summary page

A quick graphical summary of the CPU, memory, and datastore utilization, and network I/O rate of the cluster. Core metrics for the selected entity are displayed as analysis charts, depending on available data. At the bottom of each chart is a link that takes you to the Data Explorer view for the specific resource type, and displays charts and information for a larger set of metrics.

The data displayed in Data Explorer view charts for any resource part of this view category is based on the time filter that is applied to the primary view in this tab. You can select other time filter options to view charts over a different time resolution

For more information, see Cluster page in the vSphere Data Explorer view.

Configuration Details page

Configuration information about the cluster.

Related Information panel

Links to detailed pages for thresholds, host details, and VM details.

Recommendations panel

All available recommendations for the cluster. For more information, see Recommendations-page-in-the-vSphere-Infrastructure-view.

Tags panel

List of tags that are associated with the cluster. You can assign or remove tags by using the Edit Tags option from the Tags action menu.

Detailed information about a specific vSphere datastore

To view the details page for a specific vSphere datastore, click its (hyper-linked) name under the Datastore column. You can use the sorting and filtering options on the page to find a specific datastore cluster.

For more information, see Managing-charts-and-tables-in-Views and Filtering-data-displayed-in-Views.

The Datastore details page displays information under the following sections or panels:

Section or Panel

Description

Summary page

A quick graphical summary of the datastore space and capacity utilization, and read/write rate and latency details. At the bottom of the chart is a link that takes you to the corresponding Data Explorer view.

The data displayed in Data Explorer view charts is based on the time filter that is applied to the primary view in this tab. You can change the time period in the Data Explorer view for the selected resource, to view charts over a different time resolution.

Configuration Details page

Configuration information about the datastore.

Associated Systems page

Name and system type details for all vSphere systems, such as clusters, hosts, VMs, that are associated with the selected datastore.

Recommendations panel

All available recommendations for the datastore. For more information, see Recommendations-page-in-the-vSphere-Infrastructure-view.

Tags panel
