Datastore Clusters page in the vSphere Infrastructure view

A vSphere datastore cluster is a collection of datastores with shared resources and a shared management interface. It as a set of datastores that is treated as one unit.

When you add a datastore to a datastore cluster, the resources of the datastore become part of the resources of the datastore cluster. You can use datastore clusters to aggregate storage resources, and to support resource allocation policies at the datastore cluster level.

The Datastore Clusters page in the vSphere Infrastructure view shows the capacity used and available at datastore cluster level. The hierarchy and relationships are imported for automatic aggregation, and the information displayed in this page can help you to track and analyze the storage capacity of the datastore clusters.

To access the page, in the Views tab navigation pane, click Views > Virtualization > vSphere > Infrastructure, and in the vSphere Infrastructure page, click the Datastore Clusters tab.

Metrics per datastore cluster are displayed in a tabular format. By default, the table is sorted on the number of additional datastores that can be added to the cluster on the basis of their capacity.

Each row corresponds to a datastore cluster and provides an overview of its capacity with the help of the following metrics:

Detailed information about a specific vSphere datastore cluster

To view the details page for a specific vSphere datastore cluster, click its (hyper-linked) name under the Datastore Cluster column. You can use the sorting and filtering options on the page to find a specific datastore cluster.

For more information, see Managing-charts-and-tables-in-Views and Filtering-data-displayed-in-Views.

The Datastore Cluster details page displays information under the following sections or panels:

Description

Summary page

A quick graphical summary of the total datastore space used, free space, and total size of the datastores. At the bottom of the chart is a link that takes you to the corresponding Data Explorer view.

The data displayed in Data Explorer view charts is based on the time filter that is applied to the primary view in this tab. You can change the time period in the Data Explorer view for the selected resource, to view charts over a different time resolution.

For more information, see Datastore Cluster page in the vSphere Data Explorer view.

Configuration Details page

Configuration information about the datastore cluster.

Contained Datastores Page

Details of the datastores that are included in the datastore cluster. For more information, see Contained Datastores table.

Associated Clusters page

Name and system type details for all vSphere clusters that are contained in the selected datastore cluster.

Recommendations panel

All available recommendations for the cluster. For more information, see Recommendations-page-in-the-vSphere-Infrastructure-view.

Tags panel

List of tags that are associated with the cluster. You can assign or remove tags by using the Edit Tags option from the Tags action menu.
