Viewing and running aggregation rules

An aggregation rule is a condition that selects the set of entities to which a hierarchy template should be applied.

Aggregation rules and hierarchy templates are used by BMC Helix Continuous Optimization to manage hierarchies. BMC Helix Continuous Optimization automatically updates hierarchies when new entities and data series are loaded.

For example, the aggregation rule can dictate that the Virtual Machine template should be applied to all entities of type Virtual Host within the Virtualized Systems domain.

To view aggregation rules

  1. Open BMC Helix Continuous Optimization from the BMC Helix Portal.
  2. Select Administration > Data Warehouse > Aggregation rules.
The Aggregation rules page lists all the currently configured rules (excluding derived and aggregate rules) and their status.

To run the rule for derived entities

If you observe any data gaps for derived entities after migrating them from TrueSight Capacity Optimization to BMC Helix Continuous Optimization, you can run the aggregation rule to resolve the issue.

Perform these steps:

  1. On the Aggregation rules page, search for and select the Manual derived entities aggregation rule.
  2. Click Run.
  3. Select one of the following options for data aggregation:
    • Current period to aggregate last one month data
    • Historical recovery to define a custom period for which you want to aggregate data
  4. Click OK.
A confirmation message about the run operation is displayed at the top of the table. After the rule is run, migration of derived entities is completed.
