BMC applies upgrades as described in the BMC Helix Upgrade policy. BMC applies upgrades and patches during Maintenance windows..

23.1.02

Analyze forecasted data from external sources

Use the Generic CSV file extractor to import forecasted data from external sources. Use this data in an analysis and compare it with the existing historical data or forecasted data produced by BMC Helix Continuous Optimization. Analyze the results of this comparison to understand the entity behavior and identify any performance issues, trends, and bottlenecks.

For more information, see the following topics:

Updates to vSphere views

The following enhancements are added to vSphere views:

Future saturation and Watchlist pages in the VMware Infrastructure view

Use the VMware Infrastructure view to:

  • Analyze the vSphere infrastructure providers that have exhausted or exhausting resources in terms of their capacity
  • Review the details of the vSphere datastores whose provisioned storage is greater than their actual capacity, and identify datastores that have read or write latency issues.

For details, see Future-Saturation-page-in-the-vSphere-Infrastructure-view and Watchlist-page-in-the-vSphere-Infrastructure-view.

VM snapshots and Future saturation pages in the VMware Virtual Machines view

Analyze the virtual machines that have old snapshots or have exhausted or exhausting resources in terms of their capacity by using the VMware Virtual Machines view. For details, see VM-Snapshots-page-in-the-vSphere-Virtual-Machines-view and Future-Saturation-page-in-the-vSphere-Virtual-Machines-view.

Enhanced Cluster over-subscription recommendations page

Analyze the clusters that are over-subscribed or under-subscribed in terms of resource allocation. Access these pages by clicking the relevant links in the Cluster over-subscription recommendation details page. For details, see Recommendations-page-in-the-vSphere-Infrastructure-view

Check ETL health for optimal data collection

Use the ETL Health dashboard in BMC Helix Dashboards to monitor the health of ETLs configured in BMC Helix Continuous Optimization and understand the overall impact on data collection. For more information, see Checking-the-ETL-health-for-optimal-data-collection.

Include untagged business services in the Business Services view

View untagged business services in the bubble chart of the Business Services view. You no longer need to tag business services to view them in the bubble chart.

For details, see Analyzing-business-services

Assign permission to create and edit data marts

Assign the data_mart_edit permission to the custom roles that you are using to create and edit data marts. All default roles used for data marts include this permission. For details, see Default-user-roles-and-permissions.

ETL module enhancements

ETL module

Enhancements

  • Import AIX and Solaris hierarchy.
  • Change namespace of metrics shared with VMware ETL by using the extract.change.namespace property.

Import historical CPU load average metrics to analyze and identify any abnormalities that could be affecting your system performance.

Support for BMC Discovery version 23.1.

Additional strong lookup fields to identify entities when you use the Kubernetes API.

23.1.01

Analyze the resource usage of servers by using workload definitions

Use Workload Assurance to create workload definitions. With these definitions, analyze the resource usage of your servers according to the applications that run on them. For example, you can identify the server processes that consume more resources. You can customize these definitions based on users and processes. For more information, see Analyzing-the-resource-usage-of-servers.

ETL module enhancements

ETL module

Enhancements

  • Enhancement to stop importing the BYIMAGE metrics by default to improve the ETL performance.
  • A filter for pod workloads. You can filter the workloads data by using the namespace deny list.

Support to import metrics from the HPE Primera and HPE 3PAR storage systems.

The following video (3.58) provides a high-level summary of the new features and enhancements in version 23.1 of BMC Helix Continuous Optimization.

Analyze improved memory recommendations for Kubernetes containers

Review and analyze the improved memory recommendations to resolve a probable risk or efficiency issue with the capacity of your Kubernetes containers. When a Java-based service is running inside a container, BMC Helix Continuous Optimization aligns the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) resource allocation with the container allocation and provides actionable recommendations for the JVM memory. These recommendations help to mitigate service risks and reduce MTTR for Java-based services. For details, see Recommendations-page-in-the-Kubernetes-view.

23.1_entity_catalog_filter_enhancements.png

Reconcile entities to resolve duplicate data

When two or more ETLs share an entity catalog, they might create and import data for duplicate entities. Use the Reconcile entities option to review and reconcile the duplicate entities. After reconciliation, the duplicate entities are merged and displayed as a single entity. For details, see Adding-and-managing-entity-catalogs.

Filter entities by entity status in a summary data mart

While creating a summary data mart, use entity filter by status to include or exclude entities with a specified status. For example, you can exclude entities that are no longer useful, such as dismissed entities, or include only active entities in the data mart. For details, see Creating-a-summary-data-mart-for-a-custom-view.

Extract status details of Gateway Server and Agents

Use the Gateway Server Status data mart to view the status data of the Continuous Optimization Agents. This data mart can be used after you install the Gateway Server Status data mart package on the Maintenance page. The data is extracted daily by using the Gateway Server Administration Helper system task. Status data of the last 30 days is available. For details, see Using-the-Gateway-Server-Status-data-mart.

Review data from the virtual node namespace in the VMware vSphere view

Use the Virtual Node details page to review and analyze performance metrics with the virtual node namespace, that is data collected by using the Agent, for the selected VMware virtual machine. For details, see All-VMs-page-in-the-vSphere-Virtual-Machines-view.

Update all Remote ETL Engines simultaneously

On the Status page, use the Update All ETL Engines option to simultaneously update all the Remote ETL Engines to the latest version. You can also schedule the update for a specified frequency, date, and time. For details, see Checking-the-status-of-remote-components.

Enhanced Moviri - K8S (Kubernetes) Prometheus extractor

The Moviri – k8s (Kubernetes) Prometheus Extractor is enhanced to import the CONTAINER_NUM metric for the pod workload. For details, see Moviri – k8s (Kubernetes) Prometheus Extractor.
