Creating and viewing a domain

You can create domains to organize the collected data. Domains are also created automatically by ETL connectors while they import data.

To create a domain or subdomain

  1. In the left pane of the Workspace tab, click Domains, Services & Applications or select an existing domain for which you want to create a subdomain.
  2. In the working area on the right, click Add > Add subdomain.
  3. Enter a name to identify the domain.
  4. Select an appropriate domain type from the list.
  5. Click Save.

The new domain is visible to all the access groups that are assigned to the user that created the domain.

To view a domain

Select the required domain in the Workspace > Domains, Services & Applications navigation pane. The working area displays one or more of the following objects for a domain:

  • Subdomains: A high level folder that includes all the entities such as systems, business drivers.
  • Systems: Any entity imported by the ETL. For example, resource pool, cluster, virtual machine.
  • Business drivers: Any object containing data about workloads.
  • Works: A folder containing analyses and models of the available metrics. This folder also contains reports, folders, and documents. 
  • Events: Objects that keep track of changes in configuration, maintenance, errors, and incidents.
  • Filters: Filters available for analyses and models.
  • Alerts: Automatic surveillance methods that scan the domain for specific conditions and automatically perform pre-configured tasks when such conditions are met, such as sending email notifications or generating reports.
  • Thresholds: Threshold metrics for a system or business driver. For example, threshold metrics like warning, good, and so on.
  • View lookup: Shows lookup fields configured for the entity catalog. This information is only applicable for systems and business drivers. 

To set a domain as the root node

Based on your current authorization profile, domains are displayed in the navigation pane. When the list of domains is very long and navigating through domains is difficult, you can limit the scope for the current session by setting a new root node.

Right-click the required domain and select Set as root node.

After creating a new domain, you might want to add systems and business drivers to a domain.
