Gateway Server directories


The following sections describe some of the key directories for Gateway Server after it is installed to your local computer.

Note

The directory structure varies depending on the type of installation (Gateway Server or Agent). This section describes only the basic installation directories.

Base directory for installations

You can specify the base directory on the Specify Installation Directory page when you run the installation utility. The default location of the base directory is:

  • On Windows: C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Patrol3
  • On UNIX: /opt/bmc/patrol3

Key directories

This list assumes that you installed Gateway Server in the default base directory. The examples are for Microsoft Windows and UNIX, but are shown according to UNIX conventions. If a path or directory pertains to only one OS type, it is noted.

Directory name

Subdirectories and description

Directories included in the Agent installation

bpa_ common

Contains libraries and binaries such as the following:

  • OS-specific libraries referenced by the globalc directory under $BEST1_HOME (%BEST1_COLLECT_HOME% for Windows)
  • Locale files for globalc (internationalization - currency and so on)

Patrol3

Contains the Gateway Server configuration scripts, and is the root directory for all OS-specific product files. 

Note: Patrol3 is the default value. The directory name can be customized during installation.

BEST1/versionNumber

This directory is the $BEST1_HOME default location.

BEST1/versionNumber/bgs

This directory and its subdirectories contain the binaries, scripts, and other files needed to run Gateway Server.

 

bin

Location of the binary files (for example, bgscollect, bgsagent) used to run the product.

log

Location of the log files for the system collectors.

mgroup

The metric table repository files used by the collector.

monitor

Contains these subdirectories:

  • Examples contains the sample Investigate policies.
  • Log contains the logs written by the agent, Investigate, and other components.
  • Tmp contains the dynamic links from shared memory (collector) to the actual .udr files.

setup

Contains configuration, hardware, and sample configuration files.

scripts

Contains scripts and text files that are used while running Gateway Server.

BEST1/versionNumber/History

Default location for history collection data (used for Investigate).

BEST1/versionNumber/local

Local scripts and configuration files for the computer. The setup subdirectory contains local configuration files and the hardware table files.

Perform

This directory is present only on UNIX installations. It contains two subdirectories:

  • History - Default location for history data. A link from/usr/adm/best1_versionNumber/history points here.
  • Collect - Default location for your collected data. A link from/usr/adm/best1_versionNumber/collect points here.

Uninstall Gateway Server

Contains the files necessary to uninstall the product, if you want to run the installation utility in uninstall mode.

Additional directories included in Gateway Server (Windows only)

Patrol3

BEST1\NTC

The Gateway Server installation includes all of the directories listed above, as well as the NTC directory.

 

bgs

These directories includes component-specific files for the console and its components (such as Analyze, Predict).
